Hello, I am looking for a stainless strain screw for a model 64 square butt for a friend of mine. He is getting light strikes sometimes, and it looks like someone shorten the screw in the past. I have had no luck finding any on line, except 1 on Ebay for $9. I can find them for round butt, but not square. Does anyone know a source at a decent price? Thanks

an old trick if you needed extra length was to take a spent small
primer out of a shell case, remove the anvil and put it on the
strain screw.

Hey, now that may work. Worth a try if I can not find one, thanks.

I must be half asleep this morning. Sorry about the link to Midway.

I do have some extra ones in my parts bin.... I can send you one free of charge if you are unable to find one. Just PM me, or e-mail me an address. BTW, I checked at Numrich and they are out of stock.
No problem at all. I appreciate your help and your kind offer. Let me dig around a little more and see if I can find one. If not, I may take you up on your offer, thanks, again!

I needed one not too long ago and S&W sent me one at no charge.

Thanks, I will do that.

The strain screw for the M 64 square butt is #301560 and the round butt is #301580. (of course check the part #)

Did you try calling the parts dept. at S&W?

I am going to try tomorrow, just too busy at work today. I think I work the hours they do,lol. In the meantime, I tried the spent primer trick. It fit on the end of the strain screw nicely, I have a feeling it might just work. My friend said it may be Saturday before he can try it out though. Thanks everyone for your advice, it was a big help.

S&W does not have any, does not expect to ever have anymore. I completely understand, it is considered a obsolete part. My used primer may work, and I may order from ebay.

???? I don't understand "S&W doesn't have and and doesn't expect to ever have anymore". They are still currently manufacturing SS revolvers.

I am not positive, but they may not make any square butt revolvers anymore. The screw for the round butt is different length. You can find plenty of that size.the
