I have a 629 stealth hunter I'm getting ready to setup for hunting and wanted to get some opinions on which optics I should use.

Option 1. Metal Cmore with a 1moa dot (no magnification)
Option 2. Leupold 2x5-8x Scope

I had originally planned on using the Cmore with the smaller dot - Fast target acquisition, good for low light, small dot would still make shooting longer range feasible

But... in the past I've always used scopes and I've started to second guess the Cmore route (having to turn on, no magnification, holster considerations)

I already own the Cmore, just put it on for picture, the picture with the scope is just one I found on the net to give a reference.

Thats nice set up I love mine no scope though I like the reflex sights myself thinking of using a Aimpoint H1. I figure moving shots would be quicker as well as target acquisition. Might get a T1 anyways what holsters can you use I was thinking of a guide holster what you find if anything nice pistol.

I'm about done using magnified optics for deer hunting. If you hunt from a stand, then it might make more sense, but I tend to hunt on my hind legs. Moving deer are too hard to pick up quickly and the scope makes longer than advisable shots more tempting. Had both happen in one day last season whilst out with the 657. Scope is now off of it!... Have had great results over the years with the big old AA battery powered Holosight/EOtech unit. With lithium batteries it has never let me down even after long cold soaks. Iron sights haven't been bad either. The Aimpoints ought to be good, too, but have none on handguns, currently.

This Stealth was purchased with a scope on it, but it hasn't worn one for years.

ETA:

The "king" of the deer gettin' .44s is on top of the above photo. The others are just for range work and general "funsies". (Between the Leupold and the Weaver, the Weaver has been much more satisfactory.)

Jay, those are some nice guns
I actually use to own an older Birdsong 629 Stealth as well, I had it topped with a Bushnell Elite 3200.... Unfortunately I sold it back in my younger less experienced days... Absolutely loved that gun. It was dead on accurate, and had complete confidence taking deer to 100 yards with it.

I really like that stainless 629 with the holosite... just curious, what holster do you use? That's one of my concerns with going with the cmore...

I had Shamrock Holsters custom make one for my 460 and they did a great job, I had planned on having them make one for my Stealth.

I'm going with the Vortex Razor RDS. I'll pick the sight up Friday.

I think you told me about Shamrock Holsters in my thread. I will probably have them make me a holster after I get my sight mounted.
