Need advice, IWB and pocket holster for j frame

Another vote for Remora IWB. I also own a Mika pocket holster and like that as well, although I'm not a huge fan of pocket carry.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful info! I went with a Mika pocket holster and a crossbreed iwb. Thanks again for the advice.

I just use a pocket holster for an IWB holster and small-of-back carry. This works great for me. It's an Uncle Mike's #3, but I also have a Blackhawk #3 that's very similar. The Uncle Mike's holds the gun more securely. I would say it takes a good 2.5-3 lbs of pull to get my S&W Model 36 out of the Uncle Mike's, and the holster always stays put.

Just wondering:

  • How difficult/easy is it to re-holster?
  • Can you re-holster your gun without looking?
  • Do you have to remove the holster from your pants in order to re-holster?
  • How long does it take from unholstering your gun, to getting it back exactly how you like it holstered?

Hi Motor:

It takes a couple seconds to re-holster, and I don't need to remove the holster. It's done by feel alone. This for me is a very comfortable, easy-to-manage, and secure arrangement.

That's what I love about the reholsterable version of the Remora - just as easy as my Milt Sparks. Great to see innovation like this still happening - I wish these had been available when I started carrying in the mid-'80s.

Those Remora IWB/pocket holsters look nice and grippy. I see they're about $24 a pop. I think I paid about $11 for my Uncle Mike's #3, and the neoprene band around the holster also is very grippy--grippy enough at any rate for clipless IWB carry.

I like my MIKA pocket holster for j frame pocket carry. Ordered a MIKA iwb holster for my Glock 26 and if I like it I am going to get one for the j frame too.

Gonna try one of those Remora's for my 642, if Erich recommends it, you know it works. ;):)

Ultra carry, low profile or regular.....for a 642?

Yeahimjosh,

I have a Mika IWB for j-frames that I would be glad to sell to you, if you decide that you want one. I have used it two or three times at most, and it shows zero wear of any kind. It's a great holster, but I have come to rely on my Remora holsters more and more, so it's just sitting in a box now.

If Yeahimmjosh doesn't want it, let me know. I'll buy it if the price is right. Thanks.

I have tried several pocket holsters, many better looking and most more expensive, but I still prefer the one Ray from Lobo Gunleather makes. Lightweight rough-side-out leather, molded to the gun, stays put and very easy to re-holster.

Add me to the Remora fan club. Received one today for my 642, don't know if I can seperate it from my body, that thing STICKS where you put it. Alan, you make great holsters.:)

CHEAP POCKET ROO HOLSTER

For mine I have a Tuff Products "Pocket-Roo" holster. I like it as it has a place for a speed strip giving you a reload.

For IWB, although I don't use it much I have a RKBA IWB. I really like the offset clip...it's quite comfortable.
S&W J-Frame

I just found these great holsters on the LCP ruger fourm, for 15 bucks, instead of 25 bucks, they hold up well and dont slip in the pocket..
