Need Advice On Cleaning A S&W 17-6

I am about to come into possession of a really clean (could pass for new) S&W 17-6. I have decided to shoot this gun. I am in the process of getting the best plated 22 LR ammo I can find to help reduce the filth factor.

I would appreciate any advice on the best products for cleaning a blued gun like my 17-6. Products and methods to clean the gun without damaging the finish.

after you get it clean using solvents such as hoppes,proshot,etc...wipe the exterior down thoroughly and put a coat of renaissance wax on it...the gun will never look better and be protected
