Need advice on this model .22A

I have the 22A, it is a good shooter/ plinker. The nice thing about it is you can change the bbl's from a 4" to a 5.5.Or vise-versa in your case. You can add a scope for varmit, or longer target shooting. It is obviously not a 41, but for the money it is a good gun. I shoot all kinds of 22lr, brand wise, no problems. Now the cons, I have read from others here, it is picky on the ammo it likes. Not mine however. I don't know of an auto for the money that is better. Good warranty. I paid a bit less for mine but it is a 4". I say get it and have some fun.

I got the high dollar version of what is a fairly cheap pistol.

I really like mine. It's the pistol I'm most accurate with.

Of course, I'm not very accurate with anything.

I've got the 7" fluted barrel version.

It took my wife retiring to get her to the range. I'm actually getting to the point where I'm giving some guns away to the younger generation to enjoy and want a .22 semi just to goof off with. I'm hearing about FTF and FTE problems and may kick in a few more bucks to avoid that problem if possible. I'll be buying bulk ammo, so will I be having this problem with whatever I buy? My only .22 handgun is a H&R 9 shot "sidekick" revolver and it gets kind of hard to load.

The 22A is a very accurate, reliable pistol. My 5.5" barrel does better with standard velocity ammo. I haven't had good luck with heavily lubed ammo (aguila), Rem golden bullets or Thunderbolts. Everything else does well.

Before you go and buy a big brick, unless it is a super deal, get a box of 50 from 4 or 5 diffrent brands, and try them out. You should be able to find a good brand that it likes better, and is more accurate. You can always shoot the others in the revolver. You might even find one that is more accurate in the revolver also.

Great advice, Cartouche.

I've found some ammo (Aguila/Centurion) that none of my semiautos will feed well. .22 handguns are strange beasts, they all seem to have a preference for certain brands/types of ammo.

I've had mine for about a year and a half. Average about 50 rounds a week. Shoots most anything without problems. And with a red dot is reasonably accurate at 25 yards. Usually 2/3 in the black. I have the two tone version. I think I paid $199.00 at Gander Mountain. For the money I think it's a great gun.

G'day.
I have a 22A Target with the large timber Grip.
This is an outstanding .22 handgun. More accurate than I am.

I mount a C-more Railway 6MOA sight on it for shooting Steel Challenge Rimfire.

PMC Zapper Ammo works best followed by CCI Blazer.

Hooroo.

I prefer the 22S, but for the money, you cannot go wrong with either model. If you have Academy Sporting Goods in your area, this model of gun generally goes on sale every April for around $200. Welcome to the forum.

I have the plain version with the cheapo BSA red dot that some say won't work. It does sit a bit cock eyed but what a great shooter. I had trouble with just 2-3 rounds of ... Wildcat? within the first couple of boxes it smotthed right out. I installed a thin teflon pad under the hook and that tighted up the barrel to action fit a lot. It onlt moved around during dissasembly but was frustrating. Very tight now.
