Local gun show this weekend. A guy has a Sig Sauer P220 in 38 Super. Gun is in excellent condition. American mag release. Has original box & 2 magazines. One mag is still in the wrap. Asking $1750.
What say you?

Great gun...no question. But I think he's asking too much. Without looking at it...I'd say $1300-$1450 is more like it. Maybe a bit more as the .38 Super version of the P220 isn't that common.

Take cash...offer him $1400 while showing him the cash and see what he says. If you don't ask the answer is always no.

I already haggled with the guy. He already came down just a little, but he ain't moving any more.
Sounds a bit high to me too. But I like Sigs, love the 38 Super cartridge and these don't come up very often.
What to do?.... What to do?

The cheapsters would say no, but if you really want it, buy it, even it's a little high. If they really are hard to find, who knows when you'll run across another?

There's a saying over on the Colt Forum about whether to buy something that seems a bit too high..."You didn't pay too much...you just bought it too soon."

If you're happy with the price of the package...that's all that matters.

IMO the American release is scarcer than the heel style - so there's a premium there. They are asking prices like that and a bit higher on GB not that they are selling at that price. The box etc is a + and 2 mags are great as well. Try $1600.

A buddy of mine just got one for $2000 NIB with extra magazine and all the original literature in the box. I have not looked up what a .38 Super factory magazine would cost but I bet it's $$$. It is a fairly rare gun. Not many made in the caliber. Don't see them for sale that often either. Probably won't see another one for awhile. I would not "cheap out" on that one if I really wanted it. Good luck.

I have three 220 in 45 ACP and one 228(?) in 357 Sig I shoot sometimes. I have five 1911 family in 45 ACP and one 70's Commander in 38 Super, I never shoot. It isn't ammo, I have hundreds of rounds and reloading for just about anything.

Go rent or shoot a buddy's in 357 Sig or 38 Super! That will scratch your itch and save your cash.

BY The WAY: MY Commander and 357 Sig are far and away more accurate than any 9mm of similar model, but most 45 of same model outshoot them!

I decided to let it pass. I'd like to have it, but really don't need it. Besides, this guy is at every gun show here. I doubt he'll sell it as most people at gun shows aren't familiar with the 38 Super. But if he does, so be it.
Maybe next time he's here he'll be more willing to haggle. :D

Ivan: I have a P220 in .45. I also have five 1911s in 38 Super. So I know how good they are. ;)

I was in the same position with my PC 1911-2 Doug Koenig 38Super . I knew it was a little high , but these are very seldom seen , so I jumped on it . All I can say is WOW , knowing what I know now I would have paid more . If it's what you want , go for it next time you see it .

Years ago, a local hardware store was closing out their firearms. One that was discounted was a .38 Super Browning BDA. Being a dyed in the wool .45 man, I had no use for a piddling .38 Super.

Dumb, dumb, dumb! Those Brownings are extremely rare.

Smart move. And I have a bunch of Super 38s...

Over on GunJoker - the last refuge of the overpayer - just last week an SIG P220 .38 Super American (side mag release) sold for UNDER $1300.

Overpaying is never a good move, unless it is your once-in-a-lifetime Holy Grail gun.

...we must be brothers....same thing happened to me while living in Dallas...local store had one, offered it to me at a great price and I passed....

Over on GB there are six in the completed auction file from $1500-2000 and none sold...

The last P220 .38 Super is at the SIG Academy in NH. I got to shoot it during an ammunition seminar in 1998....

If you like Supers and get a chance to buy a Taurus PT 38S get it...just a GREAT gun. Traditional DA semi-auto but can be carried in Condition I C&L. Usually go in the $500-800 area depending on the model. I have the all polished. There is also an all blue and polished with gold accents...

Next Gun Show ...Bring Cash Money ... $100 bills ...

Slowly count out $1200 and see what that gets you ...

Here in Baton Rouge Louisiana that would buy it ... $1400 would be my maximum offer , maybe ... but I don't have a Big Burning Want for a Sig P220 ! I do like the 38 Super

Life is short and Pleasures are few ... Go with your Gut on the price ... If the gut say's buy it ... Listen . Need ain't got a darned thing to do with it !
I've paid too much for several things ... but if it makes you Happy ...

Go For It !

I’d be a buyer at $1750, given how hard they are to find, especially with the American mag release and 2 mags, which are even harder to find. If you’re looking for one, you likely won’t find a package like this anytime soon. However, I’d offer $1200 and work my way up.
