Need ammo advice

I'm in sales so I can hit Wal Marts in different towns and get lucky occasionally. If I just want the least expensive and SAFE 9mm 115 grain for the range, what would you recommend? Web sites? Remanufactured? Inexpensive brand other than Federal/Winchester/Remington?
I'm new at this so go easy on me....

I would stick with Winchester from walmart. Your 9 Shield is as "safe" as a gun can be (it's not going to kaboom). I also really like Blazer .40 in my shield, I'm sure the 9mm range ammo would be good too.

I used to have a Taurus 92. It loved the russian steel cased stuff and choked on the walmart federal champion. Buy whatever you want off the shelf and try it, it is the only way you'll know. Tula? sure. WPA? great. just try a box. They shoot a little dirty, but who cares

A lot of ranges will not allow Russian ammo a.k.a. Tula. Their backstops can not handle the steel bullet. Double check where you shoot to make sure the ammo is ok to shoot there before you buy some.

Cheapest I've found at Wally's is TulAmmo at I think 11 something a box (50).

Neither my Shield9 nor M&P9FS nor XD9 has ever had one hickup with Federal Champion 9mm from Walmart through at least 2000 rounds. It's cheap and good as is Winchester White box. My Walmart always has Federal 9mm on the shelf lately and I always buy it in the 100 round box instead of the 50 round box; cheaper.

Why do you want to avoid the Fed/Win/Rem ammo from Walmart?

Agoyette, I sometimes forget that people have to go to ranges in the city. I have only shot at my own range (except for my permit test.) I guess I'm spoiled as I can shoot whatever/whenever I please. But the russian stuff is still copper jacketed lead, not steel core. Only the casings are steel

If you want cheap, good 9mm ammo, get Blazer brass. I sometimes buy Federal & Winchester from Wallyworld, but ALWAYS buy Blazer ammo whenever I see it. I have heard negative things about tulamo, but have not ever shot it.

If you can't find things locally and decide to order online - I use Freedom Munitions (either reman or new brass). It is cheap and works great.

i've taken my 9c to the range twice in the month i've had it, and had a variety of ammo to try out (all for range shooting, not working with SD ammo yet).
Blazer brass (from PSA though i have seen it in packed in cans in stores), Fed champ (from WM), some Tulammo, and UMC as well.
No issues with any of them. Granted 2 range trips doesnt give a long history, but it's already more forgiving on ammo then my22's were when i was trying them out lol.
So i plan on using any of the 4 above and will keep trying others, based on cost and availability. I just need to keep it to brass casing due to my range requirements.

Not all Tulammo is steel cased either, check the boxes. I had one steel cased round FTF out of many hundreds fired, and that may have been due to my sloppy magazine loading, but I now buy Brass case unless the steel is cheaper. At the time it was, but prices seem even now. I've never had a brass cased 9mm round of any brand fail to function perfectly.

Best price I ever got on 9mm was $23/100 Tulammo BrassMaxx. Came in a white plastic tub, so you can't mistake it for anything else. What I didn't know was that WalMart only get it every six month or even less frequently as it's not in their standard order, or I would have cleared the shelves.

Most everything is $14.99/50 around my area at the moment. When they have boxes of 100, usually Federal, they might be cheaper. I get Federal .45 auto in 100 packs when I see it, as that's significantly cheaper than 50 round packs.

Some people claim that some brand are more accurate than others. I think unless they're already driving in nails at 25 yards there's really no difference.

I was told at my range that Russian ammo like Tulammo (it is specifically mentioned) had a copper jacket over a steel core bullet. That was why the caution.
