Need good .22 rifle scope

I recently was looking to reconfigure a Target 10/22 with a 6-24x40 into something that handled a bit less clumsy. Although the scope is exactly what I need in 50-100 yd target stuff, I needed less bulk. Searching around decided to try a red dot of all things. After a false start with a couple losers, I'm working with the Bushnell TRS-25. As a 3mm red dot in the under-$100 range, so far so good.

It shorter than my thumb and has some other qualities I like.

I've also got the mighty Leopold 2-7x that was mounted on my 647. Absolutely marvelous for my purposes....and a really bright FOV.

Keeping it for other duties now the 647 has moved on. Mounted it for experiment way forward as EER "scout rifle style" on an AR. After bore sighting, I was suddenly nailing the 200 yd gong!!!

In 1994, I bought a new Ruger 77/22, and installed a Leupold VX-II 3-9x33mm Rimfire EFR scope. I could not have made a better choice.

There are a lot of good scopes available...but if you want the very best combination of value and performance, I can recommend Leupold without hesitation.

Beemerguy53 hit the nail on the head, I have several of the Leupold 3x9EFR scopes on my 22's and could not be more pleased. I also use ,or have used the Leupold 4 power rimfire scopes and liked them. I still have a couple of those on 10/22 Ruger carbines. In this case the best scopes do not cost too much more than everything else so you might as well step to the line and get one that you will not be sorry for later. That's why we buy Smith's rather than Brazilian revolvers.

a little different!

To stick with the Leupold thoughts. I bought a Ruger 7722 as soon as they first came out years back. I put a fixed 4x Leupold for a full sized rifle on using the Ruger mounts that came with the gun (no iron sights). It's still on and boy does that little Ruger shoot well, gun thinks it's a target rifle and I have won many coffee/ lunch bets with it.

I have never use .22 type scopes on my little guns, always used scopes for center fire rifles and have been very pleased with the results. It was hard at first in the late 60s to put a full sized scope on a .22 as they mostly had those slots on the receiver for the 7/8 sized toy scopes of the era. If you hunted around back then you could adapt a full sized scope onto the .22s!

No doubt, Leupold scope are great scopes, but not everyone can afford a Leupold scope for their rimfire. There are other good scopes out there that will get the job done and have good warrantys. Just for the record I own several Leupold scopes. I also own a couple of Sightron rimfire scopes that are perfectly clear and bright with repeatable adjustments and a good warranty. Less than half the price of the Leupold when on sale at Midway. I have had great sucess with a 36X Weaver on my centerfire benchrest rifle and there are a lot more brands of scopes out there riding on match rifles. Leupold does not own the benchrest market in spite of what has been said here. Check the equipment list on the match results pages if you don't believe this. Again, leupold scopes are great but they aren't the only good brand of scope out there.

What is an M8?

I have listed a Leo M8 4x Rimfire scope for sale. Just drive by or call me and I will show it to you!

Anyone know what the M8 is that Colokeb has listed for sale? One of the guys linked to Leapold Rimfire scopes but this is not one of the ones listed.

Here's yet another of those over rated Leupolds on a rimfire. It's the 3x9 compact and balances out this Kimber of O nicely. Sharp optics too.

Anything that anyone would recommend for under $100 (I am not going to pay twice what the gun is worth for a fixed 4x scope

Natchez sells refurbished Nikon 4x rimfire scopes for $70. Currently sold out, but they get them in from time to time.
