Hi, new to the M&P series, and have a few questions:

Are the grips inserts interchangeable between the 9mm/40 and the 45 series ?

What is the factory recoil spring rating for the 45 ?

Thanks
John

Yes, the grip inserts interchange for all the full size models.

I don't know what the compression weight is for the recoil spring. I do know that it is longer than the 9mm/.40S&W springs.

Can you share what you have in mind? Are you looking to mix and match grip inserts due to texture/color differences?

I have a used M&P 45 full size on the way, and I may need to buy a small insert, so wanted to know about that. I did see some interesting striplied inserts for sell over in the classifieds.

The recoil spring question is because I have 1000's of 45acp loaded for my other pistols, and they are too lightly loaded to work the slide 100% on the 45 FS M&P that my friend has and who was kind enough to loan me to try. I probably will just buy a new recoil guide assy, save it for full loads and modify the used one for the reduced loads.

I'm curious, what is the bullet weight you're using in your reloads? My .45 has cycled fine with 200gr and 230gr loads, but I haven't tried 185 yet. Even so, it should work fine with those too.

I would have been the first to say that the backstraps were different between the full-sized .45s and the full-sized 9mm/.40S&W, but I looked them up in the M&P parts list and they all have the same part numbers (277820000 for the small, 277830000 for the medium and 277840000 for the large). By the way, if your gun has the medium backstrap installed, I personally don't notice that much difference between it and the small.

That's all I shoot in my M&Ps 45s, 185 jhp. Reload is 10 grs of AA5 over a 185 jhp and Speer Gold Dots in same weight for self defense.

The load that was marginal in my friends M&P45 was 4.8 hrs HP38 with a 200gr Missouri Bullet SWC and a Fed 150 primer, mixed brass. 5.5grs HP38 with the same bullet works fine, as does 5.8grs HP38 with a Hornday 185JHP.

I have several other 45's that I use the 4.8gr load in, it is very accurate and soft shooting in most every gun I try it in, as long as the pistol will feed SWC's

OK, that's strange. The 4.8gr load is about the same as what I've loaded. I've fired at least 500 rounds of my own 200gr loads traveling at 830FPS, which should be close to what you're doing based on the reloading data. I haven't had any trouble with them.

The only difference I see is that I used RNFP bullets where you had SWC. Are you having trouble with ejection or feeding?

You should be ok with the blackstrap mixing. On the low powered loads you are right in that they may not cycle the slide. If they aren't too many rounds, it may be ok to use to practice malfunction drills... Just a thought.

I have both the 9mm and 45acp FS M&P. I think I have an average size hand. I use the medium size backstrap on the 9 and the small on the 45. I didn't take a girth measurement, but the 45 with the small backstrap still feels slightly larger or fuller (wider) than the 9.

Factory springs on the .45 look to be about 16-17 lbs. Midway has Wolff spring and guide rod sets for about $25.00 and they run from 14 lbs up to 24 lbs. Should take care of your problem.

It's not. At least mine isn't. The only difference I can see is the size of the magwell.
