I have a friend who just got his CPL and is interested in finding a concealed carry gun for around $300. He is on an extremely tight budget. I've tried to convince him to get a S&W M&P 9c or Shield, but he said it's out of his price range and doesn't want to get a credit card.

So he's looking for a semi auto, in 9mm, something reliable, concealable, and comfortable.

Thanks guys I know this is a tall order, just wondering if this is even possible?

You can find a 6906 for around $350.... An awesome third gen 9mm! If you look on Gunbroker you can find some with more wear for $300 all day long. And ANY third gen S&W will be a fabulous gun for the rest of your life.

I hate to mention the "G" word but you should be a able to find a used Glock for that price. I think the Smithd would be a better deal.

Got to go with Lost Lake on the 6906 recommendation...easily concealable, light, accurate, & 3rd. Gen cool!

You can buy a Hi Point for around 150.00. Just read a test on a 9 mm and the guy fired over 1000 rounds through it without a hitch. Accurate enough for concealed carry but ugly as sin! Lifetime warranty too and made in USA.
Funny you should mention this, he actually was looking at a Hi Point and asked if they were any good. I said I thought they were reliable, but ugly looking and heavy. So he wanted me to research some other options, but he hasn't ruled out the Hi Point's.

Not 9mm, but I have had great success with the Bersa 380 pistol. Under $300 new

Forgot to mention he already has a Taurus 380. This guy is like 6'6 300 lbs with huge hands, when he cups this little 380 in his hands it literally disappears! So he wanted a 9mm for his primary carry gun and he's going to use the Taurus for a BUG. I told him he should carry his full size 45 for his carry gun but he's stuck on a new 9mm for some reason.

I'll have to let him know about the 6906, looks like a cool little gun right in his price range too! Thanks guys! :D

A big guy like that ought to consider the Model 59s that are on Gunbroker right now - LE trade-ins with the price starting at $209 plus shipping and transfer. A guy could do a lot worse.

I agree! If your buddy is that big, a 5906 would be a great gun!

A 469,669, 910 6906 and 5906 can be had for under $400.
I recently bought both a 669 and 469 at an LGS for under $300.
A 910 for $250. The Bersa Thunder 380 for $300 is a good .380. My wife has one and it's been very reliable and accurate.
Another reliable Non smith is the SR9C by Ruger. Ours is a tack driver and high capacity if desired. New are around $400. Used at $350. A Glock can be had new with 3 mags for under $500. A great CCW DAO is the Kel Tec 9mm. It is under $300 new.

Sense we are talking about all guns & not just smiths there are a few used options. I have a decent Taurus pt 111 9mm , compact & light. In the more full size range I agree with the third gen 9s by smith & also the 2nd gen 659 ( I own one ) . Another option is the p series from tiger , I was able to get a p90 45 acp for 300 , you can get the 9mm version p89 or p85 for around the same or cheaper .

try finding a sigma. i paid 300 for mine, brand new. if he can find a used one, it should be in his price range.

Everytime I try to get rid of my Hi-Point 9mm I change my mind and keep it, then shoot it again and shake my head that I would even think about getting rid of this $120 gun. It runs circles around my new S&W Shield and Bodyguard 380 for accuracy and ease of use, with as good or better reliability. With a decent short trigger pull and features like adjustable sights, making it a great range gun. Too heavy and bulky for me to use as a pocket CCW, which is only reason why I have the Shield and BG380.

The BG380 was only $335 new, and is a nice low cost choice for pocket carry from S&W. (edit: after reading your next reply, forget about the BG380 with huge hands. For me the BG380 is uncomfortable to shoot. My S&W 500 is more of a joy to shoot than the BG380. But the wife likes to shoot the BG380 as her CCW choice, and that's all that matters.)

I have the Kel-Tec P-11 that sells for under $300. It is not my carry gun but it has proven to be quite reliable. It is a double stack 9mm and weighs only 14 ozs.
