Need help on model 10/13/15 choice!!! Please help!

Dicks near me is crazy overpriced, and I never see .38 ammo there. I do look just to see what they want for it. For ammo, including .22, Walmart is the cheapest retailer around me. But I haven't bought a box of centerfire ammo in 2 years. But I do look.

And during the last panic, 9MM ammo, which is now about 14 bucks a box of 50, was over 20, and that was even if you could find it. Not willing to be the victim of the next panic. I churn out ammo and dump it into ammo boxes and shoot without worry or guilt.

And this Monarch ammo, was it .38 or .357? Don't believe .357 ammo was .34 shipped.
Well it could be the case as regionally retailers usually have different prices. I rarely find .22or for less than 8 cent a round, whereas Dicks I've gotten federal match of 5.2 cents a round on sale pricing.
As for .38, I don't bother looking for it anymore due to the fact I can get full house .357 for same price or less. Also, in my experience I've found less accuracy with .38 in my
357 mag. And ever since I got my .500 mag 4" bbl, .357 mag feels like .22lr haha

And yes, the monarchs were .357 mag 158 grain semi jacket.

If I can find the sales receipt In my email, I'll post it up so you can see with your own eyes.

Oh and no I'm not offended that you doubt me. The internet is full of b.s. tellers, so you have to take things with a grain of salt. But in the meantime while I search for that receipt, take a look at freedom munitions. Their prices are usually close to the .30 cent range for .357.
That's my favorite site to buy 9mm and .357

Buying an older gun online....

Make sure that the the seller is A+ and has a long list of sales.

If an S&W pops up with a little wear on the outside and the guy says the internals, lock up, etc are good and it hasn't been 'modified' in any way is fine and the only thing left is the closing price. If it says 'As Is'..find something else because you don't know how much it would take to fix it. Like maybe the picture doesn't show the blown cylinder on the other side of the gun.

You can get a brand new model 66 , S&W has decided to produce them again, for $650 to $700 street price. Stainless steel , 6 shot , 38 spcl/357 magnum , K-frame , combat magnum, adjustable sights, 4.25 inch barrel , new warranty....and the tests I seen indicate great accuracy.
The original was perhaps the best handgun in relation to size, weight and power. Shoots everything from target wadcutters to heavy magnum loads. If I were looking for a good revolver , this would be it.
Used guns can be OK , new guns , like new cars , might be a better investment...especially if you want a shooter.

I'm looking more into buying online. I am just a little nervous of getting scammed. But online I only really see model 10s and a few model 15s and almost no model 13s. I like the 15 but the barrel seems a little think compared to the bull barrel of the 10/13.

I have five Model 10's and I bought them all on-line; mostly from Bud's Gun Shop (he is currently out of police trade-ins). I never paid more than $350 for any of them.

I also have a 19-2 which I paid a bit more for;). I bought it at a local gun show.

IF the shop will throw in the return to single-action and maybe eat the sales taxes(?) I would go with the Model 13. I like BLUE revolvers!!

Enjoy the search......it is almost half the fun of the chase!!

Road rat sell me one of your model 10s!!!!

I'm going to vote Model 15. I've had Model 10, Model 19, and 686...yet my Model 15, which started me on the S&W quest, is still my favorite. For range work, you can't beat the 15. I just can't seem to miss with mine.
...And for home defense, I'm comfortable with the Model 15 loaded with good ammo. Mine is loaded with short barrel Gold Dot 135gn right now.

The 13 is an attractive option...I like the 357 a lot. But the 38spl can do just about anything you need it to, from light wadcutters to +P hard cast swc's.

If you are willing to order, Allen's Armory has both 15's and 13's, former correctional guns.

What is aliens armory? Is it a safe site?

hAllen's is legit, but some of their stuff looks rough, if only cosmetically. Do a google search for "police trade ins" and whatever model you wish. There are a bunch of sites.
If you are on GunBroker just ask questions and pay attention to the feedback rating of seller. For a revolver you want the phrases, "tight lock up, good timing, etc."
Thare is a 38/44 on there now that is rough cosmetically but the seller states that it is mechanically sound. Not a .357 but it will eat any plus p you want to theow at it and look great doing it. It has a "buy it now" of $399. If I had not just taken home a 1917 Army, I would have been really tempted.

Allans Armory is on the gunboards.com website. Haven't bought from him but am on that site every night and so far have not heard any complaints regarding someone buying from him. He does check out what he sells so that is a plus. And his sales descriptions are accurate. And plenty of pics as to what you are getting. And as for choices I'd get the model 15 with adjustable sights. I have one with the blued finish and love it and was bought used. Frank

Zosozoso, I don't know if you mentioned not liking stainless. You may want to consider a Model 67. Basically a stainless 15. I have a no dash. Good guns. Bob

I wouldn't mind a stainless but i would prefer a blue one.

Is this the Allan's armory you guys are talking about?

I wouldn't mind the model 15, I was kind of wanting a bull barrel and I know the 15s didn't come in bull. Am I going to notice that much of a difference from the barrel of the 15 and the bull?

I still really enjoy the fixed sight look of the 10/13s. So I'm trying to keep my options open, with a blued 10/13/15.

After looking the internet I think my original post of the model 10 is way too much money. The model 15 is a pretty good deal, I just here nickel guns are hard to clean? I don't mind the look but would prefer a blued, and the model 13 is not a bad deal with the seller fixing the gun.

I'm going to search the Internet a little bit longer and try to find the best deal. Anyone know any info on GatGuns out of Illinois?

Thanks again for all the help guys, you guys have all been great!

One more question for you guys, what do you think of buds gun shop police trade ins? I have heard buds is kind of shady, but not sure? I don't like that you can only see one picture of the gun, but they do have some nice ones come through for pretty cheap!

Of those 3 I'd go for the 15. For range gun in your price range I'd start looking for a pre-lock 4" 686, and for ME PERSONALLY I'd prefer a 4" 27/28.

Going to look at a model 15 pre dash for 375, what year does that put the gun around? 60s?

So I found it and it wasn't 34 cents, instead 36 cents a round. Here's a pic of the receipt.

It's either a pre-15 or a 15 "no-dash." Depending on what you are looking at will answer your question. The model numbers started in 1957, so the pre-15 would be before that. Not sure when the -1 started.

Ok I have been looking all day and I have found 3 pretty good options, 3 are within driving distance for me. Can you guys. PLEASE give me some feed back on them!!!!

10-6 (this is the perfect - model 10 this I have read about 10-6! But it is a 3 hour drive from my house.

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Smith & Wesson model 10

10-? Only one that would have to be shipped but in good condition.
ARMSLIST - For Sale: Australian Police S&W Model 10

15 no dash, this one is a 5 min drive from my house.
ARMSLIST - For Sale: Smith & Wesson Revolver Model 15, 38 Special

I'm leaning more to the 10-6 that is 3 hour drive it looks super clean and is only $375 they are all sending me more pictures tonight of barrels/bore.
Feed back would be a great help!!! Thanks guys

That's a good price for that 15 if it is in good condition. I have a 4" 10-6 and a 4" 15-2 and IMHO the 15 is a lot more fun to shoot. It has the best balance of any K frame I own. Just a great gun for .38 special.
