Need help selecting a large .357 Mag Revolver

I would appreciate your thoughts regarding the selection of a .357 mag revolver that is consider as good or better than my Colt Python (below).
I want the best one made with the best trigger and feel for target and hunting. I have read that the Model 686 is at the top of the list.

Like these posters have stated. A 686 or a 586 early would do it.
I have a no dash 686 six inch that is a real Tack driver with an excellent trigger.
However I also have a couple of six inch model 28s that shoot just about as well and are a lot lighter to carry around.
 
If you want one that feels most similar to your Python, the 586/686. If a larger gun is an option, a 6 to 8 3/8" model 27 or 6" model 28 as Charlie mentioned.
 
I personally don't see the 586 or 686 as comparable to your Python. Those would be comparable to the King Cobra, unless you want to go with a Performance Center gun, then they would be comparable. Out of the box, the Model 27 is the comparable gun, which is an older Smith, just as the Python is a older gun. If you want a new gun, the Performance Center 627 is the way to go. JMO.
 
The Colt is a good gun as is the ones recommended above. The 27 & 28 are a favorite of mine and the older 686. If you want a shooter that is cheaper than a Smith consider a Ruger Security Six. They are great shooters and you wont increase the round count on the collector Smiths.
 
Get a six inch model 27-2 or 28-2.
Triggers are exceptional right out of the box.
Accuracy is exceptional right out of the box.
Then go get your deer with it.

Ruger Security Six or GP100. Trigger isn't as nice as a S&W, but you can get it slicked up. for hunting, I would imagine you'd be shooting single action anyay, so trigger isn't as important. Strong as an ox, too.
 
Pythons are nice, but the one I had wasn't especially durable, plus it had that stupid short cylinder, like the 27s & 28s have. I honestly feel a good 686 or GP100 with a decent trigger job is a much better all around revolver. Neither revolver can touch a Python for looks though.
 
take a look at the 627pc 8 shots plus moon clips for fast reloading if you want to use them. comes with wood and rubber grip. mine has been flawless.

I agree that the Python is drop dead gorgeous...I had a 6" that was so pretty I didn't shoot it much, but when I did it was a bit of a let down. Such a long reach for a trigger that stacked quite a bit made me run back to my 19's, 66's and 686's! Sold it off and never looked back. (Got a 3" 66 and some $$ before the 66 prices jumped!)

Lots of good advice in this thread for you to consider...all good choices. I don't have an N frame but the K's and L's have served me fine.:)
 
I have the 686 pro series, very nice gun for the money

If it's accuracy your are looking for look for a Dan Wesson, scary accurate if it's a Monson made gun, or one of the new 715's.
