Having received the answers to my question on shipping C&R rifles to California I have another more general question. I know the regs on shipping handguns but what are the regulations on shipping C&R long guns between C&R licenses?? Can they ship Priority Mail - UPS or FedEx Ground? Any thoughts on which is better or least expensive?

Have a fellow in California interested in buying a C&R rifle from me. I have a C&R license and he also has one. Anyone know for certain the laws on shipping this rifle to the C&R holder in CA???
I know the Federal laws are ok with it but what about CA laws?

Since you both have a C&R,,you can ship a C&R long-gun directly to him in CA.

C&R classified firearms are exempt from the recently imposed need to apply for and obtain a CA shipment approval #.
C&R Longguns can be sent directly to a C&R licensee in CA. However C&R handguns must be sent to an 01FFL dealer in CA for transfer to the C&R holder.

I saw in the book where the shipment approval crap is not needed for C&R transfers. Haven't found anything (in the 69 pages of CA laws) that says that the long guns can be sent directly in. Where did you find this info??

Gentlemen, I thanks you much for your help and insight on this. It's been a good 15-20 years since I sold any long guns and I don't know if i ever shipped to CA before so this is all new for me. I appreciate the help!

Here is the response I got about 8 mos. back............

In response to your correspondence, private citizens may ship C&R long guns to Type 03 C&R licensees. Shipments of firearms by private citizens are not affected by the new California law requiring shipping approval numbers. All shipments must be packaged and mailed in accordance to procedures outlined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.
