You'll love the way the pre-14 K-38 shoots they are about as good as it gets for target shooting I really like the ones I have.

K 257064 is from 1955, so it is a K-38 Masterpiece. As noted by Wiregrassguy it didn't get a model number assigned until 1957 and model marked guns didn't appear on dealer shelves until 1958. By then it had four frame screws. Yours still has five.

Me too! Here's a picture of less than half of the K-38 Masterpiece revolvers that live in my safe. Some day, maybe, I'll take a picture of the whole collection. These are great guns! I'm not ready to quit accumulating them . . .

They're all in the land of ice and snow!
That is certainly true right now. We didn't get much snow for most of the winter, but the last week or two has made up for it. It snowed pretty heavily about 10 days ago. I went to Texas for a week (where it rained the entire time I was there) and when I got back Friday night we had another foot and a half. I shoveled twice yesterday and had to do it again when I went out at 4:30 this morning. It has been snowing steadily since. But Spring is on the way!!! :)

Wow, that was fast, thank to all for the information!
Can anyone tell from the pictures as to an approx value.

It shows some wear and there's some rust on the barrel would still be a good shooter I'll go out on the limb and say 450 to 500 if you give a little TLC.

That's why I can't find a nice 5 screw. They're all in the land of ice and snow!

Hey, Steven, S&W made 3 calibers of Masterpiece revolvers. Now you have the K38, you need to collect the K22 and K32. Good luck on the last one.

Well he doesn't have them all but every time I post mine he says that's all you have.....JP@AK is just to modest.......:)

one thing I've noticed that I don't see on other k38's is that the front sight post/ramp is red?

They didn't come that way from the factory someone has put that on there. Personally I would remove it by soaking in acetone and using a tooth brush.

Yes, I want to keep it but need funds for car repairs. Hope I get to shoot it.

Well, if you are going to sell it, take off the stocks and soak it in Dextron II ATF for a few days, then remove the rust with a copper Chore Boy pad or brass wool. Put some carnauba wax on it and it'll shine. Don't take it to a pawn shop or LGS as they'll only give you 1/2 or less of what you can sell it for. Put it on theoutdoorstrader website and it should move quickly. Or, if you don't mind shipping and dealing with an FFL, put it in the classifieds forum here.

I have it on the ODT and well see what happens. Feel free to make an Offer!
