Trying to remove my factory GB to replace with railed GB.

I've driven out 2 roll pins (smaller upper and large on bottom of GB). GB is still tight on. Do I need to drive these two pins (refer to pics) out? I've whacked on them a bit (right to left) without movement.

Thanks

One of our armorers was having a really hard time trying to remove the tapered GB pins, until I reminded him the armorer manual states these pins are removed/installed in the opposite direction of how they're done in Colts ...

If you're using the standard after-market (orange) plastic bench block for AR gas block tapered pin removal/installation, that means the language is opposite of how they actually go IN/OUT.

This can be interesting (and a bit entertaining) during AR armorer update classes, when someone has been trained to work on other brands.

FWIW, I really try to avoid removing/replacing them anyway, as they're tightly pressed (supposed to be).

Some guys always want to modify/add parts, though.

I have found that with the right punches they come right out as long as your going the right way. I have done it now on 9 different rifles all different brands. Someday I will invest in the gas block/front sight pad. LOL

Had no problem with mine. Just use a big hammer and the right punch and they both came out in 2-3 good hits

The gas block is mounted to the barrel, on standard Sporting Rifles of this type it is built into the base of the front sight. It aligns with a hole in the barrel to siphon off some of the gas used to propel the bullet down the barrel. This gas is used to move the bolt backwards and cycle the action of the gun. A spring that is behind the Bolt carrier propels it forward loading another round, cocking the hammer and getting it ready to shoot again.
I hope this answers your question, I put it into the most simple terms. :D

the gas block on my OR model was a mother to remove. (yes the pins are tapped out in the opposite direction, at least on the OR)

You can also measure the diameter of the pins with a caliper. Hit on smaller side to remove.
