I recently traded into a Model 17-2 which I would rate at 95%-98%. According to the serial #, it was made in 1960. In addition to the gun, there is another cylinder chambered for the .22 rimfire magnum. The cylinder is mounted on its own ejector rod, and has a small letter "M" stamped on the rear between two of the chambers. Both cylinders are perfectly timed. I don't know if the mag cylinder came from the factory or was added by a gunsmith. Also, I don't know if S&W ever offered the dual cylinders from the factory. Both the standard .22 and the mag shoot quite well.

A colleague is trying to talk me into selling it to him, and I have absolutely no idea of its value. Although I'm not overly anxious to sell the gun, I would consider it if the price offered was too good to turn down. What do you think it's worth and/or what would you be willing to pay for one like it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My recollection is the factory would sell the .22 Magnum version (model 48) with an extra .22 LR cylinder, but not a model 17 with the Magnum cylinder. Never say never with S & W, however. This combination is highly popular at present, and I've seen them sell in the recent past at the $900-1100 range depending on condition, original box and contents, and if it can be documented as a factory combination.

murphydog is right on the price these go for that revolver in the shape you described with all the goodies and there would be many up here that would love to buy it.
