I am new to this forum and I see that you all have a lot of knowledge about the different models, So your help would make me feel a little better about the decision I am going to make.

My wife is going to buy me an M&P for my birthday this week, My problem is...I've narrowed it down to the 15T and the 15OR but I need to know what is everyone's opinion on those two ? and what upgrades should I do to each ?

I am going to take everyone's opinion and use it to make my decision.

I've been using the M&P15 OR for a year or two now. I put a Bill Springfield trigger in it, swapped out the stock and installed a DD Omega 7.0 free floating rail on it. I have a 3.5x ACOG on it. You can see the evolution of my AR-15 here.

With the 15T, you'll be getting iron sights and if that is important (it wasn't for me), that may be the way to go. Likewise, the 15T will come with a Troy rail on it. I had a Troy on mine for a while and then move it to my backup AR and installed the Omega in its place.

There is a notable different in pricing.....and so it may boil down to your budget and if the extras coming on the 15T are what you want. Replacing them with something different means you spent more for those parts you are removing.

Either rifle will be a good purchase....they are essentially the same with just different options from the factory.

Do you already have AR experience?

If not, you might try the entry level Sporter. Well received by those, including myself, who own them. No frills(no forward assist, no dust cover) but a 1/8 twist melonite barrel and a really great performance record so far.

However, if you're looking at tricking out your AR with optics and other goodies, you're on the right track.

Happy Birthday to you!!!

I agree with Hobie. I purchased 15-Sport. Swapped out some furniture.

Finally got it out to the range. I fired 100rds of cheap, steel case, .223 TulAmmo. Other than the ammo firing a bit dirty, there were no issues. Clean up was a breeze.

Now if you want to trick out your AR with all sorts of furniture goodies, I'd go with the 15-T. The quad rail makes accessorizing easier. The Magpul BUIS are good.

My Birthday is Friday so we are going to find my rifle tomorrow.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and Thanks for the information, It's really appreciated.
