i'am new to reloading, and have a 38 spl.,,
i just got wc, bullits 158gr, but it said for 357 mag.
can i use these in my 38. spl. shells to shoot 38 spl.
If others here are aware of something I'm not aware of, I'm sure they will correct me. But as far as I know the .38 special has the same size bore as the .357 and therefore uses the same diameter bullet. I bought 3000 125grn. JHP's several years ago which were labelled ".38" on the box, but I use them with my .357s.
Bullets are the same diameter and are interchangeable for the .38 spl and .357 mag. Lead cast bullets for the .357 mag are generally harder to prevent leading at the higher magnum pressures and velocity.
Hard bullets will often lead rather badly at lower pressures as the base of the bullet doesn't obturate enough to seal the bore. This may or may not be a problem in you revolver depending upon actual bullet fit to bore size. Try them out and if they are leading badly scrub out the bore and you can try coating them with an additional coat of Lee's Liquid Alox bullet lubricant that can help eliminate some of the leading.
It seems though that you may need to brush up a little on reloading by possibly reading, or re-reading, a good reloading manual. (Please don't take offense as I am simply stating an opinion here.)
That sort of stuff will be explained in a good manual.
I only mention this because one can get rather injured of one is not as prepared as one should possibly be.
I agree with socal s&w. Agood manual like Modern Reloading will not only give you load data but also the know how to not injure yourself in the process. I just picked up a hard copy from midwayusa.com for $13.99 and they also have caliber specific manuals for like $5-6.
