My father-in-law recently gave me a S&W revolver that he got from his dad who got it from his uncle. It has a square butt and a 4 inch bbl that is stamped 32 WINCHESTER CTG between 2 maltese crosses. The top of the barrel is also stamped SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. and a series of patent dates beginning with APR 9,89 and ending with JUL 7, 03. The serial number matches on the barrel, frame, cylinder, and inside the grip plates. I'm wondering exactly which model Smith this is, the year of manufacture, and approx. value. I have some pics that I can e-mail anyone interested in seeing but I'm having problems getting them up to post. Thanks for any and all help. - Loren

Loren: Welcome aboard! Also: Nice .32-20! Most of them that age got used up pretty quickly. There's another thread that talks about .32-20 guns...you have a dilly. Fun to shoot, by the way.

Many thanks for the help with the ID. While I wouldn't consider myself a collector by any means there will always be a place in my heart for that first S&W I owned (Model 19, 6" bbl.) and that Model 15 I carried on duty for years before replacing it with a new 626... Anyway, thanks again. I'm looking forward to throwing some lead down range with this one once it's had a well-deserved cleaning.

Welcome to the forum leshaffer. That's a nice old Smith you have there. If you decide to shoot this gun, keep in mind that there were two loads for the 32-20. One for handguns and one for rifles. Do not fire the rifle load in your gun!

Good call, Cary. I took out a ruler and, indeed, that barrel is 5".

Thanks for the tip, dwf. I wouldn't want the surprise from trying to stuff too much through this one.

I've been thinking about putting the gun along with a come-a-long cuff I have from the mid-1800's and my own grandfathers old badge in a display. Of course, I probably won't mount the revolver so solid that it prevents me from taking it down every once in a while to fire
