I have worn partials for a long time and things were fine until my dropping them in the sink finally caught up with me and all the clips were gone.
My dentist retired and that was bad news. New dentist, new partials, a year and a half and two thousand bucks plus and no partials that fit.
I went to a new dentist yesterday and got a cleaning, exam and the usual
treatment plan. Pull my remaining upper teeth and get a full denture. I don't disagree with that because I have few and they are not in good shape. Go to an oral surgeon and have my bottom teeth pulled, install two implants to hold a new lower denture.
I do not go for that. She said I had some cavities beginning below the gum line and some other problems that she, in my opinion should be able to fix.
At my age I do not want to go through the implant bit. I went with my daughter when she had hers done and she was helped out of the torture chamber looking more dead than alive. She still has to glue them in.
My question is this, have any of you worn a complete lower denture without it being attached to something? Let me hear it good or bad. Would really appreciate it.

My experiences

I have full dentures and my wife has a partial. The lowers are the biggest pain in the you know what you can imagine! They must be glued in and if you eat anything hot the glue is gone almost immediately. I do not have "pins" in my jaw to hold them so that might be a way to resolve it, but there isn't enough purchase area for the plate to hold without adhesive. My sister had "pins" in her lower jaw and swore by them. Use your best discretion and as always get a second opinion on saving your lower remaining teeth.

Thanks for your replies. My lower teeth cause me no problem. I don't think that they are going anywhere until they do. My old lower dentures with some glue will work for awhile.

lowers will always be a pain in the ***. a good dentist will fit them well so that a couple drops of fixodent will hold them. as your jawbone will shrink you will have to have them re-aligned every couple of years.
uppers are much better.
i do not have any pins in my dentures and hope to not need them.
