I have the opportunity to get either an excellent shape 442nickle or 642 no dash for around what the new no locks are going for. Would you do this or go with the new guns? I welcome your opinions.
Thank you.

I'd say get one, or if you have the funds, get both! I've got a 642-1 with forged parts and no lock, and I love it. I believe it's also okay for +P, because it also has the reinforcing rib down the left of the frame behind the cylinder. I don't see a reason to wait for the new guns at all.

Get a new no lock. The new gun will come with the lifetime warranty, those used guns will not.

Tough call. I've got a 442 no dash and it's been a great carry companion for years. Don't know, good luck with your decision.

I put the 442 on lay a way. Thanks for the help.

If I'm not mistaken, the 642 no dash is not rated for +P. The 642-1 and -2 are rated for +P.

I'd look for a current production no lock 642; that way you can shoot +P without any issue (assuming that matters to you). They are out there.

Can't address the 442.

i think you did just fine. you will probably do most of your practice with non +p ammo. 642s, 442s and j frames in general are really handy guns to have around.
