ok, much like everyone else here im building my first AR and i decided that i wanted to do the complete build myself instead of an off the shelf one. i think i have the parts down pertty good but i want someone to check over my list and see what im missing.
lower reciever: s&w stripped
upper reciever: rock river a4 flat top w/ forward assist and door
barrel: 16" stainless steel bull barrel
lower parts kit: rock river basic single stage with ergo grip
stock: ace a2 skeleton
handguard: rra car length half quad free float
buffer parts: all individual pieces from rra
charging handle: bcm gunfighter medium latch
bolt carrier group: rock river chromed

i know that im missing a few things, im still undecided on the sight setup, ill probably just grab a few pmags from my local shop, and im trying to decide what to do for a front gas block and ill get the gas tube at the same time.

are there any parts that im missing other than that stuff, any small pieces that may not come with my parts kit that i will need?

The only thing I see missing are a gas block and gas tube! Good luck! On my free floats I use the Yankee Hill Micro, it is a good gas block.

will the lower parts kit usually come with the buffer retainer pin and spring?

The kit should have everything you need for the lower. Looks like you got or are getting everything else. Good luck and post some pics when you get her finished.

thanks, this is gonna be a slow over time project.
i just welcomed twin boys into the family so money has gotten a bit tighter. i want to do this project not just to have something fun and different but to have something i made myself to hand down to them when they are old enough.

The LPK will come with the buffer retainer pin and spring. I assume you do realize that you'll need an A2 buffer tube, buffer and spring to use the Ace stock. If you don't already have any of the Ace stock/buffer assembly, then try Delton... they have the cheapest complete Ace ARFX assembly I've seen. The only other thing I would suggest is buying a headspaced bolt from the same place you buy the barrel (any carrier assembly will do). Del-Ton, Inc. AR-15 ACE AR-15 ARFX Skeleton Buttstock Assembly

yes i do know about the a2 buffer assy.
as far as the bolt and barrel go, how critical is that, i ask because i found a decent barrel from one company but i was fairly dead set on getting the upper and bcg from rock river arms

I did that on my homebuilt and have had no problems, there is an old saying:
new barrel new bolt ok
used Barrel new bolt ok
new barrel used Bolt ok
used barrel used bolt not ok!!
:D

i decided to keep with the rock river parts theme and do their varmint gas block with top rail

ok, the build has officially started!! ordered the upper reciever today and ill probably be going to order the stripped lower next week

Congrats!

One trick: Take a pair of vise grips. Wrap each side of the jaws with electrical tape so that you don't mar your receiver. Start the roll pin with your roll pin punch. Use the vise grips to press fit the roll pins in.

Squeeze, release, close the jaws a little, squeeze, release, close the jaws a little...

Good luck!

Other than not seeing a Delta ring assembly for the barrel/upper, you seem good to go.
How are you set on the tools to do it?
Combo wrench, Action block, Vice, Punches, masking tape?
Make sure to use at least one layer of masking tape on the upper right below the rails when you put it in the action block, otherwise you get marring from the block (they'll look like = = = =).

ETA:
Never mind on the Delta ring assembly, RIF!
handguard: rra car length half quad free float

one last question, im planning on doing a rock river stainless bull barrel with car length gas block rail and a rock river car length wraparound half quad free float handguard. will the bull barrel match up ok with this rail??

also i officially started getting parts, i ordered the upper a few days ago and the lower will be ordered in a week or so!!!

Just want to throw a few things out there for you to consider. Nothing wrong with your choices at all just some suggestions here.

I like where your head is at with the heavy barrel. I hate M4 cut barrels, they just heat up and open up too fast! Just make sure its using a midlength gas port!

IMO you should opt for at least a spector length free float handguard over the carbine length. Another thing to consider on the handguard is weight. With the heavy barrel you could make up some of the weight with the right choice in handguards. The Troy Alpha Rail and the Midwest Industries Gen2 SS handguards are kinda where its at right now. They have the full length picatinny rail at the top but are blank on the sides and bottom which alows you to install only the size rail you need and only where you need them.

As far as the stock, that of course is personal preference as anything else but there is a good chance you will want more cheek weld. For the price of the Ace you have alot of options.

the barrel is 16" with a car length gas block. i really want to keep it car length, and im pretty dead set on that stock.
what i was trying to get at with the fitment of the barrel and handguard was more the diameter than the length. i want to know if the barrel will fit thru the handguard without any clearance issues, they are both car length so the gas block shouldnt be an issue

I understand. As far as the diameter you should be plenty fine. Are you going to get a gas block with a flip front sight built in or one with just a picatinny so you can add one separately? Obviously your not going to get a low profile gas block with that handguard.

I'm not entirely sure that those handguards will work with the gas block for a bull barrel. The handguards appear to be made to allow a standard A2 front sight to fit between the extensions. The width of a bull barrel gas block may be too wide to fit. I'd recommend emailing Rock River and asking for the total inside width between the front extensions. Then it is just a matter of finding a gas block that will fit. I will say those RR handguards are heavy. I had a set of their half quad rails (first ones that came on the elite comp) and they didn't last a year before I took them off. That rifle now has the Troy TRX Extreme. RR has lightened them some (and a little redesign) since back then, but they still appear to be pretty stout.
