Need N frame grip recommendation

I have a Model of 1989 625-6 I was going to sell but changed my mind. The Hogue grip that came on the gun just doesn't feel right. Even though the gun is a round butt I tried a pair of older N frame target grips on it just to see how the gun felt. What a huge difference. That's what I was looking for.

Recent reviews of the current S&W round to square grips state the grips are narrow and don't duplicate the shape and size of the originals. Is anyone making grips that are close to the original targets in a round to square conversion?

I like Ahrends retro target stocks on my 24-3.

Why not just get an older set of square butt grips? A friend of mine did this on his 629 and it works great. I did this on my 686 as well. You just have to ignore the "butt crack".

Hi guys, just wanted to chime in my opinion on altamont round to square conversion target stocks. I put a pair this year on my k frame 64-3 and they feel and look pretty good to me. I've seen some altamont complaints recently but i have purchased 2 pair this year and both feel and fit very good.

Culina grips are very nice. Close to factory cokes.

I purchased a 24-3 a few weeks ago with no box, no papers and pachmayr grips. the gun was in good conditions but I just didn't like the pachmayr's. I decided to try a set of Altamont rosewood grips on the gun. I'm pleased with the fit on the grips, no gaps, tight fit and the wood looks good. I don't have pictures at the moment but I'll post some up tomorrow so you can have a look.

If you don't mind paying a premium price for a premium product, I'll also endorse the Culina stocks. Fit and finish are outstanding on the 2 pair I personally own and the wood grain is beautiful. I have another pair on order with them too.

If you are on a more limited budget, I'll also endorse the Ahrends stocks too. I don't have the retro target Ahrends grips but do have several pairs of their square butt tactical stocks and a set of their round to square retro combat stocks and they are also comfortable for me to shoot with. The Ahrends will run in the $70-90 range.

I like Ahrends but they are narrower than stock. In my experience Culina's are closer to the stock girth and gorgeous.

You can find several Thai sellers on eBay with round to square target grips in the original style.

I know this is probably way off from what you really want...but I love these:

S&W N Round Butt Rubber Conversion No Finger Grooves Monogrip

My N-Frame is a range revolver, will never see carry. At most, it would be used for home defense if I have nothing else handy.

Personally...I do not like finger groves, they rarely fit my hands. Second, I like rubber. I get an excellent grip on rubber. Lastly, those fellas are cheap from places like Amazon...so no need to worry about messing them up.

I love the looks of real wood...they're beautiful. I even tried out a set of hardwood grips on my 627 before switching over...but they just don't do it for me functionally speaking.

I have tried different stocks on my 625JM. I happen to like these myself. Not target style, but feel good. Thailand. Bob
