Need Opinions on my Jay~Pee Rig ?

Hello Folks, I've been offered this very nice condition, older production Jay~Pee 'Easy Off Type' Concealment Rig for an excellent price, but don't want to end up with yet another Holster I don't have a weapon for ? Honestly, to me it 'might' be sized for an 3" Barreled S&W J Frame Model, & I've been seeking one for my M-640 3" for years now. I would deeply appreciate any opinions, comments, or anything concerning the possible Factory Size data on this allegedly unmarked example ? THANK YOU very much Guys, I'll appreciate any help with this one !!

It LOOKS like it's for a longer barrel than 2", caps added to indicate that's a complete guess. You should be able to feel and see where the cylinder sits inside the holster and measure from there. Ask the owner if he'll do that, it may help.

It looks longer than 2" to me too. Is there any markings on it? I couldn't make any out from the pic. I am not familiar to that particular model though?

I like JayPee stuff...They were a huge police supplier back in the day and probably as big a Bianchi or some of the current manufacturers. I have several K frame holster of their as well as other leather.

Those were intended to be worn cross-draw and were made for various revolvers and semi-autos. S&W called it a Spring-Clip holster, while Bucheimer and Brauer Bros called them Semi-Shoulder holsters. These had model #'s stamped on the back of the holster portion to designate the gun. The "Saddle" is generally interchangeable within brands. If the Jay-Pee isn't marked, there's no way to know what it fits, short of trying different guns in it. It looks like yours was made for a 4" revolver. A photo of the front of the holster might help.

I have a few in my collection that I picked up cheap at shows. It looks like none of mine ever had a gun in them, which should tell you something. I've played with them around the house, but wouldn't use one for serious carry.

The two on the left were made by Bucheimer and the two on the right are Brauer Bros.

THANKS Guys, And yes that's definitely longer than the average 2" or even 2.5" bbl, which honestly led to 'assume' it was a 3" version ? IIRC, Wasn't this particular Model intended primarily as an Plain Clothes or U/C type Model ? And if so, that too would lead me to believe in the 3", maybe ? I too have always loved JP stuff, as it's always been affordable yet of quality construction. I just dug up another of my JP Rigs, same Model & it's numbered in silver right along the back on the side. I honestly can't understand why this example isn't numbered, unless of course it's worn away ( which based on condition it doesn't appear feasible ) or someone intentionally removed it ? I guess I could chance it, but he wants $14 shipping & $20 for the item. Not worth when all's considered IMHO.

THANK YOU so very much 'S&Wchad', I truly appreciate that nice photo array. I too agree with the limited use factor, although it's tough to understand why as they 'appear' to be a very useful design ? However not actually having worn one for real, it's tough to say for certain. I might ask the Guy to measure its length, top to bottom, which might perhaps give an idea as to 3" or 4" variant.

I wore them back in the 1970s and loved them.
I could conceal up to a 2.5" Model 19 without the bottom of the holster protruding below a short jacket.
It was a good, tight and secure rig.
An advantage for a detective was being able to remove the holster/gun without having to take off your belt, then put it back on again quickly.

THANK YOU Guys very much for all your kind assistance !! If I was certain it was for a 3" J Frame, I would definitely grab it. But, unfortunately the person knows literally nothing about firearms & can't tell me anything whatsoever. In total it would run me around $37.50 which again will be gamble. I truly don't know why this particulate piece is totally unmarked, which I tend to find unusual ? Plus I have specific requirements that I need to in place as I intend to use it with my 3" HB M-640 DAO. That's one particular reason I was considering this one as IIRC, they used to provide a tight fit even without the safety strap. Although I always utilize the strap if available.
