I have a 29-5 classic with 5-inch barrel and it must be a transition model. The rear sight was taken off to mount a scope and lost. The new rounded front style is to short and the screw to hold it on the frame is the old style small screw. The frame has the rounded(new style)rounded front for the sight. I have tried two different new style front sights and one was to short and the other the screw hole did not line up. The sight fitting the part number I got from smith & wesson was to short and had the new style large mounting hole. What do I have here???

Here is what I think I know. First off, do you have a classic or a classic DX? If you have a DX model, you have 1 of about 200 made in 5", from what I could find out.

As for the rear sight, I am led to believe they are model specific, and something you do not want to misplace. I understand, that they are hard to come by

Good luck!
Yep transìtional. The -4 and -6 are different.
I had the exact same problem. Bought a scoped -5 and was never able to find a rear sight for her.
