HI GENTS, I HAVE A VERY NICE 8 3/8", NO DASH, MODEL 686 THAT I WISH TO MOUNT AN ULTRADOT, 30MM RED DOT SIGHT ON. IT IS AN UNMOLESTED WEAPON--NOT EVEN RETURNED FOR THE "M" RECALL. AS A RESULT, I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE IT DRILLED AND TAPPED. I AM LOOKING FOR A CLAMP ON MOUNT THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, AND THAT CAN BE REMOVED WHEN THE GUN IS SOLD……

I PURCHASED A BEAUTIFUL 8 3/8" NO-DASH 617 ON GUN BROKER LAST YEAR. INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE WAS A 2X SCOPE, WHICH I SOLD ON THIS FORUM, AND A B-SQUARE, NO-DRILL MOUNT. THE MOUNT IS ALUMINUM, SITS OVER THE RECEIVER--WITH A SLOT FOR THE REAR SIGHT, WHICH NEED NOT BE REMOVED--AND IS HELD WITH CLAMPS SECURED BY ALLEN SCREWS. THIS MOUNT IS FANTASTIC ! ! ! IT IS UNOBTRUSIVE, AND HOLDS MY ULTRADOT VERY SECURELY I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANOTHER ONE FOR SALE, NEW OR USED. I HAVE ALSO SEEN MENTION THAT WEAVER MAKES A SIMILAR MOUNT. ONCE AGAIN, I CAN FIND NO INFO, NOR A VENDOR FOR THIS PRODUCT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ? ? ?

Check out the no drill, no tap, no gunsmith required mounts by Aimtech.
They have sights for fixed sighted, adjustable sights removed and adjustable sights left in place. They are aluminum and clamp in place.
I used them on a model 64 to mount a Millet red dot, worked like a charm.

I ordered mine from Midway. Also see what Amazon turns up.

I believe the B-Square and Weaver no-drill mounts are both out of production and have been for a number of years.

I believe you are correct, KC, but neither of them was particularly rare when in production, so finding one in the secondary market shouldn't present too much of a challenge. For instance I found the Weaver unit in silver finish for a R*g*r that I wanted to scope, NIB in a little pawnshop here about a year ago. IIRC, they aren't all that expensive either. :)

Joe, I have the exact same 686 as yours, down to the "no M" but in 6" barrel length. Like you, I wouldn't dream of altering it in any permanent way. I think if you check in all the usual places (e-Bay, Gun Broker, gun shows, and local gun selling establishments) you should be able to turn up one of the Weaver units pretty easily (and cheaply.) Then you can add whichever rings suit you best... I don't like the Weaver design myself, but with a set of good machined 2-piece rings, I'm good to go! Good luck in your quest.

THANKS Froggie. I CHECKED GB AND EB, NO LUCK YET, BUT I'M STILL IN THE HUNT. I COULDN'T EVEN FIND ONE ON THE AIMTECH WEBSITE……..
