I have a 1949 Remmington 513-S 22 LR Rifle. I would like to shoot 50-100-150 yards with it......what power scope and brand would you go with....200.00 -275.00 range. Thanks for any input

Not sure you're going to be happy with that. Out to 100 yards it can do OK, but some 22s are significantly better, others worse. The 150 shots are just beyond the accuracy range of the great majority of 22s. These days you can't test ammo to see what works with your gun, you're pretty much stuck with what you can find, if any.

So on to the scope. Most 22s come equipped with grooves for the old tip-off mounting system. Less than ideal, but it works. 22 scopes are often thought of as 7/8" tubes and at $30, grossly over priced for the performance you can get. I would suggest the nikon scopes everyone suggests for centerfire rifles. Finding a Leupold on sale would even be better. The old advice is always to buy the best scope you can afford. I have no idea why that isn't extended to rimfires. You don't need a lot of power, just clarity. A gun with a 4x scope will be just as accurate as one with a 12x. Thats particularly true of 22s where distances aren't long. Just because you can see it clearly with more magnification doesn't mean the 22 will hit it.

Looks like I need to go dig out the 513-S and post a picture. Stay with something small. I think I have the 6x Leupold on the old gal. I really have to go look. One scope that works great (looks good) on a 22 LR boit gun is the 3x9x33 Leupold compacts. I also have a 2x7 Nikon on one of my other bolt 22 LR. your budget of 200-275 will buy a lot of scope NIB. If you like gun shows, hit the next one in your area and go looking. Appears that the new stuff with high power, big objectives is what is in the vogue as I see some good prices on the 3x9 and 2x7 compacts at shows or even run across a fixed 6x somethimes.

In my part of the world, it is very unusual to see a 513-S. Always wanted one to go with my 513-T that is a tack driver. My S gun is not super accurate but I love that long barrel and it does get shot some. Accuracy in a 22RF is a crazy chase of finding the correct brand and LOT of ammo, so the only way to answer the question on CZ or 513 S on accuracy would be after a lot of shooting both side by side at the range. Its only money, scope the 513 and buy a CZ. 22RF can be addicting.

The CZs have a great rep for accuracy after a little trigger tuning. Just use good ammo, consider CCI the cheapest you want to use.

The 513S is a premium rifle, never had one. I have had 513Ts.
One of these was restocked to sporter. I had a Weaver K6 x
on it. Rifle was a tack driver, but a little heavy for hunting rifle.
Had sighted for 40yds. One of the stock 513Ts had a Lyman 10x.
I have a single shot, re barreled with a new 513t barrel/ peep
sights, it is also a tack driver. Actually the best scope I have
is a Leupold 6x that was sent back to be paralaxed for 22. I
have found that scopes of straight power under 10x are the
best on 22s, without special factory adjustments or specialty
models for rimfire. I did some good shooting at 100yds/16x
Redfield, sighted at 100yds, but gun was useless for anything
but 100yds, sighted that way. Was using Win hps.

Got pics of the 513S? I haven't seen one in years. A HS chum had the only one I've seen in person.

My guess is that the CZ M-452 or 455 would be more accurate. But that can vary. The Remington will kill a lot of squirrels!

Look for one of the Lyman 10x with the adjustable objective. They aren't made anymore but have great optics and they are a fairly long scope so no trouble with crawling the stock trying to get a good sight picture. Less than $300 and usually you can find one for less. You want a good solid setup on your 22. The days of clamp on rings is over. Have a good gunsmith drill and tap for either a picatinny rail or a good set of weaver grand slam steel bases and burris zee rings. You won't regret it. And some unofficial target shoots shoot to 200 yards. Frank

Hello
On my cz modèle 2 i put an sightron ii 6x40
On auto unique x51 bis an old Weaver steel 2_7x32

I would go along with Leupold, but doubt if you can get one you your stated price range. Possibly a Nikon, and power wise, I would opt for a 4-12X. I find that (especially at my age) anything over 100 yards needs at least 10-12 power magnification to be accurate.

Leupold vx-1 2x7 rimfire scope; I own two of them, they work great and come with a lifetime warranty.

This is what I have on my CZ455. It's a very basic scope - capped turrets, basic duplex reticle, no parallax adjustment - but the glass is clear and bright, and it's nicer finished than the fancy $1k Bushnell Elite Tactical on my AR. It was $200, which is a great deal. It's also very compact, which is nice on my full stock CZ.

If Leupold offered one with a MOA or mil reticle and matching turrets so I could better adjust for different ranges, it would be perfect.

There are differences between 22 and Center fire scopes. The parallax is set for about 50 yards for 22s and 100 to infinity for center fire scopes.

Most 22's are used at under 25 yards to about 75 to 100 yards due to bullet performance drop off.

Airman and rangerpat have given great choices. Like airman I have a 1.5x5 VX Leupold on my Ruger 22. It is the shotgun and muzzle loader model, the parallax is set for 75 yards. Everyone who has looked thru this scope says it is the clearest scope they've ever seen.

I have almost bought the Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope but have used something I had on hand.
I did buy a lesser priced 22 scope, I was not even close to being happy. Wasted money.

I have a Nikon 3x9 centerfire scope on my glass bedded bolt 22.

It is not as clear at 25 yards as I would like. And someday when I run across a used 2x7 rimfire Leupold I will change it out.

You mention shooting at 50, 100 and 150 yards. Shooting at what? Targets, game?

It will take more power for the longer ranges.

Google 22 LR parallax vs center fire scopes. You will start finding parallax explanations and perhaps someone who's shooting meets your needs.

If caliber truly does not matter and you want 150 yard shooting look into the 22 mag or one of the .17 cal rimfires.

Good luck with your scope hunt.

P,S, I think I saw a nice mention of the CZ on the highroad forum. Might also google the CZ.

If you get the CZ 455 combo you just might put on the 17 HMR barrel and you will forget about the 22LR barrel.

CZ 455 with 17 HMR barrel on it and a Leupold 3x9x40mm Vari X II
