Good evening,

Need some advice here fellas. So I have a deal worked out to trade my prelocked 629 Classic 6 1/2" ported barrel plus $200 for a S&W 500 with a 8 3/8" barrel. He is also throwing in some ammo, brass, and dies. He says his arthritis is to much for it. What would y'all do? Why am I having doubts. Thanks

I may take it bear hunting once or twice but other than that nothing in particular. It's only black bear so it's nothing the 44mag couldn't handle. Thing is I have a model 29, a mountain gun, an anaconda, and a ruger 44 mag so I have a few of them.

No screaming deal either way. Looks like he is putting about $600 in your gun. Ported 44's usually bring less than unproved. Lots of 500's seem to hit the market with little use and $800 will buy many. I enjoy shooting mine but consider it overkill for most any critter at handgun ranges.

I've owned a model 29, 8-3/8" barrel and the model 500 you've described with the interchangeable compensator. As far as what used 500's go for I don't know but I can't see selling a $1300.00 gun for $800.00..... It sounds to me like you've got the sweet end of the deal as I like the 500 a bit better than the model 29 for the power if nothing else and the 629 is basically the same gun in stainless steel I believe...

Just my opinion though....

Thanks for all your opinions. Set up to trade tomorrow. I will have a 500 by lunch. Thanks.

Wise choice in my opinion, I’m not a fan of ported barrels and the 500 is big fun. You did well. Look to Barrys for some good plinking bullets.
