I have an opportunity to buy 3 revolvers from a lady whose husband passed away. These were bought new in the 70's or so and have never been fired. They are ANIB.

1. 29-2 4" Blue in wood presentation case w/ 3T's

2. 19-3 6" blue in cardboard box w/ 3T's

3. 25-3 6.5" blue in wood presentation case with book and coin. This one is a 125th S&W anniversary commemorative.

Any help is appreciated.

Three very desirable guns. How about $1500. ,give or take a grand.

Realistically ,$1800. for all 3.

Hope it worhs out for both you and the widow.

Regards ,,AL

Al, I tried to be fair and offered her $1750 for all 3 but she wants to think about it. She has 7 rifles and shotguns and was hoping to sell the whole lot for $3550. Truth is even though the long guns are in good shape they are just run of the mill stuff.

I might have missed the math here:

She wants $3550 for all
You offered $1750 for three handguns
That leaves $1800 for 7 rifles and shotguns
$1800 divided by 7 = $257 each.
I'm wondering what the 7 rifles and shotguns are, since the average price for a quality rifle these days is considerably higher, even if run of the mill manufacturers.
Might be a good deal, assuming you could use the rifles and/or shotguns.
Agreed that $3550 is a lot of cash to come up with, but the value seems to be here, unless the long guns are trash/junk.

2 Marlin model 60 .22
1 Marlin 336 .30-30
1 Remington 742 .30-06
1 H&R single shot 12ga
1 Excell single shot 20ga
1 Winchester 1400 semi auto 12ga

Depending on what is "run of the mill" you may think about using them for trading material to get something you really want somewhere else at a later date. You can never have too many weapons

Well, that list certainly qualifies closer to trash/junk than good, based on this list I'd pass too...

I'm really speaking out of school here, but SmithNut does know what he's talking about considering the subject and his math is pretty much on the money. The way guns are skyrocketing in value though and the fact that the revolvers are all desireable, plus unfired by the owner, I'd find a way to pull together the cash. Good luck with whatever works out!

I have the cash, I just don't think the collective group of long guns is worth more than about $1,000 at most.

Do you know this lady to the point that you could respectfully point out that the value of the long guns isn't all that great, provide a counter offer that includes the rifles/shotguns, but is less than her asking price?

I don't know her at all. I was referrred to her by a friend who's uncle knew her late husband. He only let me know about it because he heard she was selling and knew it might be something I was interested in. I can't get her to give me a value on each individual pice so I can determine how she arrived at her figure, mainly because she wants to sell it as one big lot. In talking though she did give me some insight. Some she has undervalued and some overvalued. Primarily I think the rifles but for example....she thinks the 29-2 is worth $400-$500 but the 25-3 $1000-$1200.

Well, that's kind of a tough call. The revolvers are definitely great finds for the money you offered. I know the long guns aren't great, but after going to the gunshow this past weekend, the asking prices on run-of-the-mill guns are surprising. Given time you might make back the money, but it's a crapshoot. I'm not sure exactly what I'd do at this point...

Before I saw anyone else's post. I came up with the same $ 1,800 that Allen-frame came up with, so I think your $ 1,750 is in the ballpark.

Individually, she's a little low on the 29-2 and way high on the 25-3.

29-2 - $800
19-3 - $500
25-3 - $800
total- $2100 Top's
$100 each top's on long gun's
$3000 total for everything
Some of the long guns aren't worth that much, but putting them on a table to sale them you can get $3000 out of all of them, on top side.
