They were always a PC bunch. They only started selling modern sporting rifles when those became the fastest selling type. They always refused to sell handguns.
However...the story might or might not be true or might represent only a regional policy. Their website still shows AR15 mags...scopes...accessories for sale.

I think they started doing that in my area year ago. They had the rifles on display but good luck finding someone to show them to you. Once they do show them to you they know nothing about them and are quick to run you off.
I want looking to get a 10/22 last year from them. They had the best price in town so I figured what the heck. I waited and waited some more for someone to help me. After 30mins I went to customer service desk they paged someone. I waited another had to have been 15-20mins guy comes around and ask if he can help me. I tell him I wanted to see one of the 10/22 rifles behind him I was looking to make a purchase. He takes one of the rack and begins telling me its a 10 day wait....
I told him here in Florida we don't have a 10 day wait its 3 days on pistols unless you have your CCWP. He tells me no I am mistaken its a 10 day wait on all firearms and that the CCWP only means they don't have to call in a back ground check. This sounded bogus to me not sure if I can get in trouble if the dealer don't call in a back ground check but there was no way I was waiting 10 days after waiting almost hour to be helped.
I ended up going to my LGS to have him order me a 10/22 and found my Model 36 That I carry every single day. Life can be funny some times with the way things happen.

Hell, they don't even carry hunting and fishing stuff at the one near me anymore... I guess all the yuppies prefer playing with their balls and fitness stuff....

Dicks ... The hunting/firearms/archery section is generally staffed by morons wearing headsets wired into God-knows-what frequency. Caught an ammo sale once in a while, but service and stock is almost as bad as Sports Authority was, which is pretty bad. No more scary black guns? Saves me a waste of time in the future.

I have always had a thing against Dick's, not that it was personal but it seemed that like Walmart they were just waiting for a reason to stop selling guns. I know after Columbine that the local Walmart here caved and stopped selling guns, after a few years they started again. I don't buy from Dicks but now I am glad I have a very valid reason. Cowards.

You're not missing much,Middling selection,uninformed sales help,strange and redundant policies,average pricing. I shop Dicks only for ammo deals and only with a coupon.

No walmart within 50 miles of me sells firearms and I have to drive 10 miles past my work (thats a total of 35 miles from home) to find one with ammo. So I only buy ammo from them when i happen to be near by. Never really bought anything from Dick's and dont care if they do or dont sell ARs
I guess the name of their store fits....

I try to give my business to local gun stores anyway.

I've never bought a gun there. WAY over priced. In fact almost everything in that store is. I bought ammo there once and the guy in the firearms section (located in the back corner) had to escort me up through the store with my one box of .40 SW.
