With a pocket full of money. I made that mistake today at the Laurel,Ms. show. Well, maybe it wasn't a mistake. The first table I went to just inside the door had a 6" 686 with an unfluted cylinder. It was complete with box, papers, and all the other stuff. The seller said "I just asked your son where you were." The tag said $650. I told him I'd do $600 OTD. He immediately said OK. I knew then I could have gotten it cheaper but I had commited and handed him six hundred dollar bills.

I hadn't been there five minutes and didn't want to lug my new purchase around the show for the next couple of hours so I decided to go over to my friend's table and leave it with him while I walked around. As I approached his table I noticed a 3" 624 on the table next to him with a price tag of $725. I picked it up and looked at it and this time I asked his bottom dollar instead of making an offer. He made a call and said "$650." Ya'll know what I did. The only thing that slowed the deal down was finding change for a twenty.

I'd been here 10 minutes and spent $1250. I knew I needed to slow down. Didn't matter now as I only had $250 left on me. I went and locked the guns in my truck and walked around the parking lot for a while. I was ready to go but I knew my brother Louisiana Joe and Jr. hadn't even begun to poke around. I needed some .25 ACP ammo for a Beretta that I stole in a pawn shop yesterday so I came back in and went ammo hunting. While looking for the ammo I "tripped" over a very nice U.S. Property marked lend lease pre-Victory in .38 S&W that I would only have to borrow $50 to make it a trifecta. Reason prevailed and I didn't buy it but I did get the guy's phone number. I may call next week and see if he still has it. I probably need to sell something but I can't think of anything I want to get rid of. The sights on the 686 need a little tweaking, (it got dark while we were shooting) the 624 shot beyond my expectations, and the Beretta doesn't like Mexican ammo. Back to the shooting pit tomorrow.

Yep, I know what you mean. I never go to a gun show with more money then I can afford to spend. Congrats on the 686 unfluted.

Charlie,
Every time you write it is like reading a book full of short stories :D .
The 686 was what - number. Plus what - was the 624? Sounds like you had a great time at the show with all of the new toys. Enjoy and be careful when at work. Later, John

686-3 Classic Hunter. SCSW says 5,000 were made in 1988. 624 no dash. SCSW says 5,000 of these were made from 85 to 87. Very accurate at 25 yards. I've got one of these in a 4" I picked up a few weeks ago. I didn't clean them last night because were going shooting again shortly. If any of the above info is wrong, feel free to correct me.

:) Charlie what about pictures. My wife says talk is cheap. Just kidding! Congratulations and good shooting. Don

The only way to go to a gun show is with a pocket full of money cause you never know when a bargain or a grail gun will appear...

With me its just the opposite. If I have money to spend, I won't find a thing I want. If I'm short on cash and just looking to pick up a few odds and ends, I'll find several on my wish list.
Congratulations Charlie, sounds like you did well.

Yep, I have the same problem, and it never fails!!!!

I went shopping in gunstores last week with a similar sized wad-o-ca$h - didn't spend a dime. Went to Birmingham's Alabama Gun Collector Assn Fall Show at the B-J CC yesterday. Nothing of interest. Ammo & reloading supplies are cheaper elsewhere. I found a Benchmade 630 Skirmish I wanted a couple of years back - same knife guy still had it. I bid - and 'won' one that evening for a song from a real dealer back then - old stock - didn't need another one yesterday. Who cares about 'need'? 'Want' trumps need! I wanted it - and I got it right. I have an EDC and a 'keeper' now. Needed it like a hole in the head. At least it was far cheaper than another revolver - and will need no ammo.

Monday or Tuesday will see me back at the 'pusher's lair' - maybe they'll have something in SS, MIM, and sporting an IL to tempt me with... about my speed. C.S. - your MS gunshow must have been a lot better. Finding a goodie as you enter a show was a great omen. I skipped church this AM to go back to our's - I'm an AGCA member, so I would only be out the $8 parking. I just couldn't get the interest level up, yesterday was that bad. Maybe I have everything I 'need'? That would be bad....

What I really want is a 3" 63 - with a HiViz front sight - like the one S&W has advertised since last winter - and it's still not on their build schedule... go figure. A bright SS 632 would be nice - that's available! Time to check 'Bud's'!

I went to the gun show in Mesquite with the intention of selling my Ruger LCR, that is a great carry gun but not great enough to replace the model 36 (no dash) that I strap to my ankle. So I walk in, get an immediate offer which I reject as too low, (learned that there are runners, who try to steer you to the dealers who want top bucks for theirs and want to steal yours....So I see a Mini 30 for a reasonable price of $645 which was $154 lower than I saw in a local gun store and I ask him how much to trade my LCR and buy his Mini 30...He makes an offer 75 bucks lower than the one I turned down, so I did the only thing one can do at a gun show...I bought the damn rifle.....I think Lucy should set up her Phychiarist stand and give us Charley Brown's free physch advice before we blow our life savings.

The worst was when dealers started taking Debit and Credit at gun shows!

I would be out of my alloted "gun cash" but then would start whipping out the plastic:)

I posted a picture of the 624 on The Lounge but I should have put it here. Here it is. A bit dirty as we just got through firing it.

Reminds me of the Belleville gun show I went to a couple of months ago. There was a guy there who had brand new in the box models! A 10, 12, 13, 15,& 19! PLUS there stainless brothers! I grabbed the model 10 (skinny barrel) and then just DROOLED!!;)
Gun Shows= A place where dreams can come true! And the last one I went to (this past weekend) had a lot of model 12s and even a 25-2!
