I have a new 10/22 takedown that fired a couple 10 shot magazines flawlessly with CCI .22 LR. I took it out today and it failed to eject just about every round fired. Two different Ruger 10 round magazines with CCI 40r ammo.

What am I missing here, it's clean as a hounds tooth. Should I/how would I lube to solve this problem. It's my only .22 semi auto rifle and I do suspect it's a little dry.

10/22s are notorious for being ammo picky. I have a friend with two, and they don't like the same ammo. Best advice is to try different ammo and find one it likes.

Too much oil just gums up the works on a 22 since the ammo is notoriously dirty. It needs to be lightly lubed but not wet.

It sounds like the extractor either broke its hook or flipped out of the bolt altogether. The 10-22 is a pretty reliable rifle but that extractor will cause problems sometimes. If the gun is brand new did you swab out the bore and chamber before you took it out to shoot it???
About the only other thing I have seen cause what you are describing...right out of the gate with a new gun is a rough or otherwise defective chamber. You might want to have a look at some of the brass empty cases that you fired. The sides or walls of the case should be smooth. Maybe a little smokey black but smooth nevertheless.
I'd bet my money on the extractor flipping out of the bolt...i have done a few conversions for guys that want a full auto 10-22 and the extractor must be pinned for full auto fire. It is only retained by spring tension as produced at the factory. Bottom line...check the brass, clean the bore and chamber real good and make sure you still have an extractor in the bolt.

Edit: I have never owned, nor have I ever seen a 10-22 that was right and was "ammo picky"...when they are right, and most of them are, they will eat up any ammo you feed them. Not saying it cannot happen, but it is rare. 10-22 magnum...not so much.

If the extractor is flipped out of the bolt, can I repair that? Not sure how to recognize that problem. The brass didn't show any obvious problems but I will double check. I have some Federal ammo that I will try.

UPDATE, problem found. I have to remember I don't see the fine print anymore and when I bought this rifle the LGS tossed in 2 boxes of CCI, I saw 40gr and just assumed this is the good stuff. Upon closer inspection the word Quite was written on the box. I thought this stuff was a little quite when firing but since it's new and I am not a 22 rifle shooter I didn't give it a thought. Loaded up some high velocity stuff and I'm feeding as fast as I can pull the trigger.

did you mean quiet.

The 10/22 is ammo picky as a previous poster commented. It will shoot CCI Standard Velocity 22lr quite reliably. However, when I purchased my 10/22 Target the LGS recommended that I shoot 300 to 400 rounds of High Velocity plated ammo first. I ran 400 mini-mags through it and now use Standard Velocity for short range (50 yd) shooting and Mini-mags for 100 yds and up.
Also use only Ruger magazines.

My experience, 20+ years with various 10/22s, is they are not picky with any STANDARD velocity or higher ammo. Mine digested everything. That said, the CCI Quiet ammo is not a standard velocity ammo and will not reliably cycle in most semi-autos, handgun or long gun. However, I do love the stuff on my lever action Marlin 39. :D

The CCI Quiet is basically revolver / bolt action food. I have a 10/22, but had forgotten the days of learning what worked.

Good thing I have a nice old Remington 512T that's going to love the quiet stuff. It all makes sense to me know, I had posted something about the cost of .22 ammo, my LGS threw these in with the purchase of the 10/22 I guess he doesn't see too good either, he should know it's no good for an auto loader, the price sticker on the box was 9.99 I thought that was high for a box of 50.

A guy at the gun club just swapped 500 rounds of CCi standard velocity for 500 rounds of MiniMag because the SV would not cycle his newer Ruger 10/22 challanger.

When new I disassembled my new 10/22. I found steel chips hanging inside from when the scopemount holes were tapped. I demurred them and the sharp edges on the bolt. She's been shooting flawless for 28 years now.

With the exception of semi auto 22 I make sure every gun will shoot shorts, longs, long rifle. I have a stash of CB SHORTS for getting food if we need it.

I have not tried the CCI SV in mine - generally have been using Remington Golden Bullet.

An even swap of 500 SV for 500 MM? He made out like a bandit.

Pricewise, I've seen the SV moving up to equal the MM lately.

Glad you found the problem being the ammo. I was ready to suggest the magazine. Bought the R/A in 22 mag and the mag that came with it had what seemed weak spring pressure and the last round was hesitant to feed. New mag from Ruger solved the problem.
