New 15-22 charging handle

So this is how I installed mine and it was super easy using this method.

1. Receive your handle

2. Remove your current handle and compare. Topside picture.

Lower side picture.

Front side picture.

3. Remove your existing latch and spring by drifting out the retaining roll pin. Use a hammer and choice of drifting device. I used a allen key tool. About 1.5mm if I remember correctly. The pin will come out of the stock plastic charging handle very easy. Do not lose it as you will need it as well as the stock spring.

4. Next, I started the roll pin into the new Tacticool22 charging handle. I tapped it in enough to keep it in place but not protrude into the channel for the charging handle latch. You can also insert your latch spring.

5. I then aligned the latch by using the allen key inserted through the handle and into the retaining latch. This aligns the holes in both pieces so when you go to tap in the retaining roll pin, it will tap into place and not bind. You can use many thing for this. Tooth picks, brad nails, etc. As long as it is small enough to fit in the roll pin hole but snug enough to not fall out under gravity.

6. I then used a hammer and tapped the pin into place. by having the allen key aligning the roll pin hole in the handle as well as latch, it tapped into place very easy. Check your handle and make sure the latch pivots freely. Sorry for blurry picture.

7. Install in your 15-22 and rock on. You may have to clean the channel in the upper receiver as this handle is precision fit. There is no room for built up gunk that can be left behind. The stock handle is very tolerance loose. And residue can build up in it's channel due to this. You may have to clean the channel the charging handle rides in to allow the Tacticool22 charging handle to move freely. it is a very nice fit and slop free. You can now feel that much more secure in that there is a better fit and finished handle in your firearm. Now go sling some lead!:)

Nice tutorial and photographs!

Thanks brother. Some of the pics are a bit fuzzy as it is just a Canon 7mp point n shoot. My carpet in that room is also very fuzzy from the darn cats. They hang out and shed in there constantly. Always want to help work on whatever I am doing as it is my hobby room. I hope what I wrote will make it easier for some as I have read a lot of people having a hard time getting the pin in.

Any word on the olive drab, go/no go? The colors choices are killing me, just had a weird thought of buying the blue and changing my rifle into an all black and blue gun. However if the OD shows its face it might presuade me to stay camo....

It's a go next week. I will post pics later, but the listing will be open tonight for pre-orders. BTW, all charging handles are back at the lower price, except for the custom laser engraving ones.

i finally got my handle today and its a gorgeous piece of master machining.i wanted the FDE and had one ordered but after seeing the pics posted i wasnt sure i would be happy with the color so just asked Jody to swap it for the clear coated aluminum.he had no issues doing it and shipped the next day.anyone who is on the fence about his handles they are worth EVERY PENNY and are so well made.i love the grooves on the perimeter and cross hatching on the top.awesome AWESOME work Jody :D

i wish i knew you were doing custom engravings.my mom just passed a few weeks ago and would have had something put on it :( i plan on having my RRA 5.56 lower laser engraved for her but have to figure out exactly what i want to put on it.

once again awesome handles and support AMERICAN buisness and workers.

Here's my brief review...

- Machining is great! Very solid, quality part.
- The "brown" is a little darker than Flat Dark Earth (see attached). I'm happy with it.
- The fit in the upper is tight as has been mentioned but the polymer should wear just enough to loosen up over time.
- A standard AR-15 latch spring fits perfect. I used a $1.99 DPMS spring from Midway (currently shows out of stock).
- The SWS latch fits great.

With the spring from Midway and SWS latch (which includes a new pin) I was able to assemble everything without having to tear the S&W part apart. I can't wait to get it to the range to break it in further!

Tacticool22, I take it the OD pre-orders are not yet possible? Look at the site this morning and did not see it. Just confirming since you mentioned it would be ready last night.

Just ordered one. Whenever you can post some OD pics to pass the time :)

Any option for the early adopters to send one back to be customized?

Any option for the early adopters to send one back to be customized?

Sure. But it would cost $15.00 to cover S&H plus engraving and paperwork. It is only $10.00 on a new handle because it is already in the system and all the other stuff is factored in.

Im looking to upgrade my charging handle on my 15-22 moe fde. I like the brown one made by tacticool, but am interested to hear pros and cons between the two handles from people who used both.

I am having a difficult time imagining a nicer handle than the one from tacticool22 ... and I have a very vivid imagination. :D

Have you considered hydro dipping these in the future?

Perhaps just the areas that will show?

Yes I have, but the cost and logistics would drive the cost up too much.
I used to work at a bow company that does their own in-house dipping, so I'm pretty familiar with the process.

Awesome, I just find so many people have never even heard of it. Powdercoating too thick, or do you think it would scrape too much?

Here is a pic of the raw aluminum. EVERYTHING is made in America. What other company can really make this claim. How many other companies design and make their own stuff even?

looks like a batch of 0% lowers to me buddy!!

Hey Jody, You know what I would like to see, I would like a metal bolt release maybe something similar to the seekins AR bolt release that has a larger and grippier paddle. :D the way your Handle came out I am sure there would be a market for you to produce one. I dunno just a thought.
