Picked up my new 2.0 Compact this morning, and was comparing it to my old original Compact. The original has been one of my favorite EDCs for years and I'm sure S&W will soon be renaming it as the Sub Compact since the new 2.0 version has arrived. The new pistol is slightly longer and higher and makes a lot of sense size wise. The first big difference is the aggressive grip texture, you'll not be needing grip tape on this one. It feels great in hand plus you get one extra back strap insert (medium large). Next the trigger is a huge improvement over the original with a crisp break and an audible and tactile reset. I look forward to a range session soon with it to see if it shoots as well as my original, I'll follow up with a range report next week. All in all I'm very impressed with the new version.

I'm hoping that they bring out an M&P M2.0 Compactˢᵍ, that being the 4" slide on a Short Grip frame that would use the 12/10 mags of the old 9c/40c.
I carry at 4 o'clock so the extra half inch in barrel length doesn't matter in terms of carryability [sp?] and concealability [sp?], but the extra sight radius and barrel length would be welcome. Grip height matters a lot more at that position.
I'm going to try out one of the new 13 round 40 mags for my 1.0 40c, as my extra carry mag, as the 15 round FS one is a bit long and cumbersome. I'll wait until the market supply pipe gets filled, because you guys who actually have one of the new Compacts should have first dibs.

my 9C 1.0 has been one of my all time favorite guns to carry , and shoot at the range.

I too enjoy my M&P 9c and it's been a good reliable and accurate carry pistol. I look forward to shooting it side by side with my new Compact 2.0. I'm sure S&W will upgrade the older Compact to a 2.0 and probably rename it the Sub Compact.
Here are some range pics, this new Compact is accurate. The 1'st photo is a group fired at 10 yards shooting Federal 147 grn HST, the 2'nd pic is at 15 yards shooting 124 grn Federal HST +Ps, 3'rd pic is 15 yards shooting 115 grn Winchester White Box FMJ. Each group is 10 shots.

Thanks for that. I thought it looked a little bigger than the original but, I wasn't sure until now. The super short grip of the original is how I ended up getting a Shield. The slimmer profile really had very little to do with my decision.
The more I look into this new 2.0 version, the more I like it and I'm leaning more toward getting one for myself.

Shot the 2.0 Compact last Friday. Gun showed inherent accuracy but trigger was very gritty and I didn't like the manual safety. Both issues easily solved. I've always hated Glocks. Forced to carry a Glock 23 for an agency I worked for seven years.
Said all that to say this: I will purchase a 2.0 Compact w/o the manual safety and install an APEX USB and hard sear, and leave the springs stock. The 2.0 Compact has a bright future!

So, in short, they took the original compact and made it a touch bigger/longer and then called it the compact 2.0 and then we think they *may* take the size of the original compact and make it again as a 2.0 version but call it a sub-compact? LOL! I think I've got it now. LMAO!
I have the original 40c and I've carried it for a long time. I like it, but as Hamster said, I wasn't always really thrilled about the super short grip, even though I don't have really big hands. I just recently bought the 40 Shield and really like it both for it being a bit slimmer, but also for the longer grip profile as well.
So, if this "Compact 2.0" is a bit longer in the grip like the Shield is, I just may have to look into one to replace my original 40c.

I'll wager the Compact 1.0 3.5" double stack will ultimately disappear. The Shield by sheer weight in numbers will do in a chopped 80s era design plastic pistol.

Well really I think S&W sought to make a Glock 19 sized M&P. Hence the M&P Compact 2.0
It will be interesting to see what they do with the original compact and if they keep it around to keep a double stack sub compact (Glock 26 competitor) in the line up or they drop it in favor of the Shield.

They probably will drop it and keep the Shield line since it is doing so well. That is my guess, but then again, I have no clue. LOL! Especially if the new compacts are doing well with sales.

I chose the Shield 9 over the 9c for my EDC due to the short grip on the 9c, just wasn't a good fit in my hand. Thanks for the info on the 2.0, I'll have to check it out, though I have no complaints with my Shield.
I have a shield and ended up carrying my Glock 19 instead. Now that I have the 2.0 I am carrying it. Only downside is I’m fat and the grip texture is pretty aggressive carrying at 5 o’clock. I used some fine sandpaper and cleaned it up so it’s not as harsh. Now the issue is mags, I have Glock 19 mags stashed in every vehicle and all over the place. Probable 30 in total. Having just 1 spare mag is a bummer and these mags are impossible to find and pricey when you do. I definitely like it better than the 19 but will have to use the 19 in a couple weeks for a class just because of the mags situation.

Mags should be coming soon according to the S&W rep I spoke with. They are also on brownells for preorder.

As a fellow fat guy I'm used to stuff rubbing in weird places. Chafing happens when you're my size. As far as the mag situation, you could use 17 rounders if you have them.
I don’t unfortunately. I switched to Glocks back a few years ago when I went from .40 to 9mm. This is my first Smith 9mm in about 7 years. Last one I had was a sd9 that I gave to my ex wife. Now I have a safe full of Glocks 17,19,23,26,34 I may be forgetting 1.

Well there goes that idea. I can't believe that it's taking them this long to release spare mags. I know people who take training and/or stock up mags seem to be the minority but still i think they should have planned this a bit better.
