I saw that in the catalog today... I'm all over it. I expect to try to pick one up soon... very soon.

Fun rifle + fun caliber + low price = ........ :D

At the SWCA meeting the head of the engineering department gave a talk and a good portion of it centered on that rifle. She is very enthusiastic about it and it seems a lot of thought and effort went into the design. I am anxious to hear a range report when they hit the street. John

The only thing that I found out that I'm not fond of is that the magazine stays in place. There is actually a smaller magazine that slides into the big "magazine"... so even when the magazine is out, it looks like one is in.

Ahhhh heck.......

Well that answers my question, darn it. I was hoping this would show up using the same style of magazines used on the Atchisson .22 conversions (as the Ciener, Spikes and others do). The Black Dog Machine magazines are the same form factor as an AR mag and quite good. It's a bummer that they chose this style, I don't need another magazine style/form factor to keep track of, bummer. I'll just stay with the Ciener conversions or the Spikes, they seem to work well and I have a dedicated upper in any event, which gives me a bit more flexibility.

Neat gun, the price is right and it should sell well.

Yeah I'm definitely disappointed in the mag setup. I really want one, but the mag is a big downside for me. I dont think Id like it for storage.

I just picked up Smith and Wesson 2009 magazine at Barnes & Noble. They have a detailed review and pictures. While there are no pictures of the lower with the magazine removed, the picture of the magazine leads me to believe the whole thing comes out. There are thumb load assist buttons that ride in the grooves on the side of the mag. The pictures with the 10-round and 25-round magazine also looks like the entire magazine comes out.

Is there a review someplace that indicates the entire magazine is not removable?

I spoke to a guy at Gander Mtn. who had the chance to fire one at some event. At the bottom of the "magazine" you can see an almost triangular piece that isn't connected. This is the actual magazine. I believe it's mostly clear, and when placed in the fake magazine can be seen through the long openings.

On Guns & Ammo TV tonight they profiled the M&P-22 and the magazine did come out like any AR15 and unlike the Colt the bolt release works. Can't wait to get one.

Check out...Home Page - Smith & Wesson main page. They are featuring this new 22 version rifle..."Kick Brass" marketing blitz.

As a side note, I finally took delivery on the M&P15 "VTAC" version earlier this week (9 month wait). Can't say enough good things about. Excellent trigger & action with all of the goodies from Viking Tactics. I took it to the range last night and 5 guys flipped for it...very impressive. $1,600 cost...ouch!

USAF385,
Just to make sure I watched the Guns & Ammo segment again. The whole magazine comes out and they show the S&W rep doing a magazine change. Also at the beginning of the segment they show the G&A guy standing with the Magpul edition with the mag out. So we can rest assured the entire magazine does in fact come out just like the 5.56 versions. Guns & Ammo puts out a great TV show on the Outdoor Channel and the Sportsman Channel.

That's good. VERY GOOD! :D It just went back into the definitely pile from the possibly one.

Now, does the entire mag come out... AND the inside of the mag come out? If not, I know to not listen to the guy who told me it did ever again... since I'll be thinking he's BSing me.

MAG318

Thanks for the information. I called my local gun shop and placed my order...he stated he already has 9 other orders! Wait until S&W begins promoting this item...September delivery.

Heck I just bought a CMG conversion bolt for my AR. $150 bucks with one Black Dog 25 Mag. Slicker than you know what. Bring one rifle to the range. Shoot 223 until I reach my $$ quota, then change the bolt and shoot 22lr till I'm bored.

I had the opportunity to handle and shoot the M&P 15-22 today.

It is lightweight well balanced. The safety, mag release, bolt hold open/release and charging handle all function and are the correct size and shape,
and are where they are supposed to be.
The trigger pull was reasonable; not too heavy.
The removable magazine is the full 5.56 size. The small triangular piece at the
bottom front of the magazine appears to be a removable floorplate.
I only ran 20 rounds through the 15-22 and it functioned flawlessly. Accuracy
with me shooting with iron (or was it polymer?) sights was good enough plunk a
bowling pin at 100yds 17 out of 20 times.
