Just bought my first S&W today (22A). I thought my research was thorough. I read some negatives on another forum. I need reassurance this was the right 22 for general target and rec shooting. Your opinion is welcome.

Second thoughts?

If you troll the gun forums, there is probably not make that someone doesn't have real or imagined issues with.

The 22A is well-made. You need to try several brands/types of ammo to find what it shoots best (probably 40 gr standard velocity ammo.) 22A's are accurate pistols. My best 10-round groups have come with my 22A.

If you have mechanical problems, the 22A comes with the S&W life-time warranty which is excellent.

I don't think you need to worry about your pistol. Start shooting and have fun.

I love mine!
It shoots great groups and was well worth the price. I found the Federal jumbo box fron Wal-Mart works great and is cheap to shoot too!

I love mine also! Easy to take apart, and shoots like a dream.

There are some better rimfire handguns, but they all cost 4 times what the 22A does. You cannot beat it for the price.

+1. I love mine!

I tried very hard to love mine, when it was shooting it was an excellent target gun. But I ended up having a lot of issues with thing like stove pipes and not feeding properly. It liked the Winchester ammo but not much of anything else at times it wouldn't like the Winchester. Sent it back to Smith twice and finally sold it to a dealer (I told him what it would do) at a gun show and put the money towards my 17-3. Good luck and I hope that mine was just one of those things. I agree with Big Dog. Got mine off of my brother-in-law for $150. He won it and already has a slew of 22 pistols. I put a BSA holographic sight on it. It is a blast to shoot. Very accurate and as Big Dog said CHEAP with Wal Mart Federal ammo!
