I posted a lengthy thread on the 1980 to present board and just figured out my 27-2 was most likely made in the late 70s. New condition, the salesman indicated that the seller was a frequent seller of unfired collectable and there is not a mark on it or any evidence it had never been fired. Anyway it is a beauty. Trigger is remarkable and I can't believe I found it locally.

A 3T gun, I'm betting mid to late 70's, although earlier is possible. That was standard configuration from 1975 to 1980. What's the SN? Beautiful revolver, I have one just like it.

Yes it is perfect! Serial N365... So after they quit the 6.5 inch in 1976 maybe...]

Very nice 27-2, and it's in beautiful condition! Lots of Model 27 fans here on the Forum. I picked up my 98% blued 6", s/n N479553 (ca. 1977), about 10 years ago. I bought it locally from the original owner for $600, and was very pleased to get it. Did the mahogany presentation case come with your 27-2?

Unfortunately no box. Did they come with presentation boxes? The original owner has traded a number of guns in the same as new condition but threw away the boxes. Go figure. Although If it had come as new WITH a presentation box it would have been out of my price range.

awesome... That's a beauty! A big congrats to you on a great find. I found an unfired 6 inch 28-2 about a month ago and am very tickled to have it.

Just picked the same model up this weekend - I feel your excitement!

Model 27-2 made in 1979-80 and included the original collector box. Has had only 6 rounds through it. Shop owner had it on consignment from a collector who is selling off due to age. Also had a 5" model, 6" in nickel, and a 45lc 6" from the guy but this was my choice.

Is that a 6 1/2" barrel? (The OP I mean.) It looks a hair longer than my 6".

Either way it is gorgeous!!

Nope, 6 inch. The perspective of one photo makes it look a bit longer. Now I want a 4" for a mate😁

I am really impressed with the checkering detail work around the rear sight and down the rib. The trigger is really a finely tuned machine. The double action stroke seems shorter and the single action is very crisp and light yet the trigger rebound is still robust.

garyalford1969- very nice 27-2. Yes, you have an original mahogany presentation case but sorry to say it is no longer complete. It should have a plastic insert in the bottom half of the case with recesses for the revolver and the tools, and a plastic insert in the top half of the box. S&W covered both inserts with a blue flocking material that did not hold up very well. If you would like to return your presentation case to original, we have a Forum expert craftsman (jcelect) that probably has the inserts and can reline those inserts with new material. Joe does outstanding work for a reasonable price. Here are a couple of examples of cases with inserts. Enjoy!

I bought a new model 27-2 in 1973. Nickel 6", standard configuration with magnas and service trigger and standard hammer. I had wanted a Model 25. There were just none to be found. Thanks to Hollywood discovering the Model 29 any N frame was hard to find at any price. So I jumped at the model 27. The box still has the tag at the MSRP of $175. The dealer knocked $5 of the price. Magnas look good on a 3.5" , still ok on a 5" but I like targets on a 6". So now it has a pair of checkered rosewoods.

This is the only.357 that I own. I also have a first year production 5" 38-44 HD. I like to shoot full charge .38 Spl with a home cast Lyman 170 gr SWC out of both guns.

I like the early 50s and pre model number guns with early model number pre Punta Bangor guns being my favorite. The Punta Bangor era guns up to the end of pinned and recessed are still nice but a miss the darker finished diamond stocks and pinned on front sight base. These were just a nice touch that added a little more class.

Still haven't gotten a Model 25 but a did find a 6.5"'model 29-2.
Shooting the heavy .38s out of the model 27 and .44 Spl out of the model 29 is just as much fun as shooting a .45 ACP revolver.
