New 29-2, what have I got?

Nice 29-2,grips are correct for this revolver. The case is an original S&W presentation case and appears to be redone by a member of this forum. The case lining deteriorated with time so this is an accepted modification of the case.If the revolver is made after 1981/82 the case would be correct.Have never bought from the auction seller but he has a very good reputation.FWIW I think you got a pretty fair deal on a desirable S&W and barrel length.

Cool, thanks! I guess I should be happy with the price then!

I suspect the barrel and cylinder of S & W revolvers of that era were of similar steel and blued together, so those colors match and the frame does not.

Agree you got the gun and accessories at a good price. Enjoy!

The gun was shipped in the 73-74 time frame, but the case is from the late 70's/early 80's and, therefore, could not be original to the gun.

Looks like you have a barely used 1973-74 M29. I have no idea of the true value of the gun, but my guess would be you paid fairly for it

Thanks guys! I'm super excited about this gun, I think it's one of the most beautiful guns ever made, but I won't be afraid to shoot it gently. I have dealt with this seller before and he is great to deal with.

I believe you paid a fair price for the 29-2 package. As stated above, the case provided dates from 1979-1985 and your revolver most likely shipped in 1974. The correct case (relined also) is shown below.

It sure does! I doubt it’s been fired much at all. As Doc44 has said (and shown), the gun would have come with the other type of case. Purists would worry about that, I suppose, but it doesn’t mean what you have isn’t very nice. I also admit I have no accurate knowledge of what these guns are currently selling for, but I would not be too unhappy about that price. It seems “fair to both parties,” to me. Nice gun! Congratulations on your new .44 Magnum! :)

I think you did well on the price especially since you obtained a presentation box with it. The box will bring you at least a hundred and fifty dollars or more on its own.

I just acquired a slightly higher serial number version with a 4" barrel in factory nickel for a few dollars more than you paid. I was fine with the price I paid.

Lets shoot them, enjoy them and show them off to our buddies. In a year's time, we will of made a great purchase.

Congrats on your new revolver and thanks for sharing.

I think you did good too. Your 29-2 shows very little sign of being fired albeit a few rounds. I bought a 39-2 from the same Seller last year and was pleased. One can buy with confidence from this Seller and his pics are great too. Enjoy.

It looks like the barrel and frame are two different colors!

This is something that the camera and certain lighting will bring out, that the naked eye and normal light will not. If you look at the auctions, this photography brings out spots in the finish and has no glare. It makes the finish of the finest pre-war guns look sort of like a Model 28, but it allows the buyer to see any warts in the finish. You don't have to wonder what flaws or assets are being inadvertently hidden by glare.
Congrats to bcr22. Sweet gun, and good price.

Who relines these? I have a case and the liner is completely deteriorated. It's for a 29-2 also. Thanks.

The gentleman who relines these is Joe Cebull, jcelect here on the Forum. He has been busy recently but send him a private message and he will get back with you.
