Curious as to how it shoots compared to a 4.0" compact or 4.25" full size.

Just picked up my 3.6 yesterday. I really like the feel and features over the Glock 26 I've had for years. To be honest, I had the M&P 9C back when. I found it to be a good pistol; accurate, reliable and durable, but it was just a bit too big to have the minimized backstrap length, so I traded it off after finding the G26 seemed a bit better in that area.

I cleaned the 3.6 and took it out for a function test. I only ran 30 rounds through it, but it fed and fired flawlessly with Winchester White Box. I also noted that the groups at 30 ft. were nice and tight for shooting off-hand standing only.

I'll get an assortment of 9mm makes and configurations to test further, but I really like it. I've got a feeling my G26 is going away soon. Next week, I'll be picking up my M&P 2.0 5". It also feels very good in the hand. I'm even thinking about getting the 2.0 Shields; the 9mm in the standard length and the .45 in the new Performance Center 4". I like the G43 and Sig 365, but I think the 2.0 versions may be the ticket for a return to all S&W in my polymer guns.

UPDATE:

I took the 2.0 3.6", along with my new 2.0 5" FDE to the range yesterday and wrung them out. I ran about 200 rounds of FMJ and assorted JHP rounds throughout them without a hitch. The triggers on both guns were smooth and relatively light with great reset. Accuracy with both pistols was very good - tighter than I shoot my Glocks. To put it mildly, I'm really impressed with the 2.0 models. Next step will be to get a Shield 2.0 and collect up the holsters for my intended modes of carry.

I'm envious of the magazine interchangeability that Glock users enjoy, and really wanted to like the Glock 26. But I can't get over the blocky feeling of the grip and more importantly for me, the frame and bottom of the trigger guard are uncomfortable against my trigger and middle fingers. So much so, that I won't get one.

That being said, I love my 45 Shield and really like the feel of 2.0 Compact. I'm getting the 3.6" Compact for that reason and because it has magazine compatibility with my Sub-2000 (full-size M&P mags) and with my Ruger PC Carbine (after cutting/filing a 'notch' into the front of the M&P magazines to match the Ruger Security 9's magazine notch).

I hope S&W continues to give us more size options in the M&P 2.0 double-stack line of pistols!

What is the advantage of the 4.0" barrel vs the standard size. Disadvantages?

For my shooting ability the full size will slightly improve my accuracy due to the longer sight radius and the added weight helps with the barrel flip. You will gain surface area for your grip and a larger round capacity (although not always a large increase). There should be a decrease in velocity going to the micro guns. I enjoy my larger guns at the range shooting with my friends when friendly competition is involved.

I agree that the 4.25" holds an advantage over the smaller 4.0 or 3.6 models along with the grip. However, for my abilities as a shooter, it's negligible. I really didn't see much difference. As far as grip, I do have a 17 rounder that I run with the grip extender that came in the box. Again, I've shot with the extra grip and the regular 15 rounder and didn't see any difference. A better shooter might.

The main difference for me is that if I choose to conceal carry it, the 3.6 will work. I was never going to carry my 4.25". It was a range gun only. The 3.6 will work for both.

I see you went with the hinged trigger. I was interested in a bundle but the 3.6" had the newer blade lever.

Do the mags still have the 15round problem?

I'm pretty sure S&W does this to the same degree Glock does.
I have 6 different pistols that shoot the same 9mm 17r double stack mags. And there are over a dozen more versions that take them also.

Basically, each "stack type" (double stack, single stack, stack and a half) of the same caliber are interchangeable. And I don't think you can do any better than that.

If anything, Smith does it better because they offer more versions of 9mm double stack pistols.

I'm not saying this makes S&W better than Glock. There is a long list of other reasons that makes that case.

The new 2.0 sub compact like the old m&p9c can run a flat base 10 round mag if needed like in some states ! My wife has had a couple of those for her 9c but she uses the pinky extension 12 rounders in it with a 17 round mag as back up with an X grip on it . Today with the 15 rounder and 23rounder it makes for a wide variety or mags we have in the house as we also have a 4.25 core now my wife's fun and house gun and I have a 4" compact optic ready . That ones for me if I ever feel the 40 or 45 are no longer enjoyable to keep up my training with or if I need a dot optic on a daily carry .

I find it a little strange they kept the old curved, hinged trigger on the non-optic ready gun, instead of going with the new flat(ter) tabbed trigger they put on the optics ready (and Shield Plus) models. I might get the optics ready model just to get that (and since I'd probably put on optic on it also.)

Fortunately, mine (used) came with an Apex flatty already installed!
