Picked up a nearly new .38 Regulation Police this weekend. SN#58510.
All numbers match, including the one on the BOTTOM of the round butt.
Any one else have a round butt .38 RP? I didn't know any were made. Thought all the RP's had extended grips on a rounded frame with a shouldered backstrap for the grips with the 1917 Patent date. This frame shows no evedence of having been reworked to remove the shoulder, and the correct numbered grips fit perfectly.
Any thoughts?

Amazed

I'm reluctantly making this post after reading the thread in the link from post #2. I am constantly amazed by the gun collections and the level of knowledge exhibited by some of the members of this forum, and I hate to stick my nose into such conversations. I just want to thank you guys, and you know who you are, for sharing all this valuable information with the rest of us light weights (I am speaking for myself on that one!!), and giving us the opportunity to see things that we would otherwise not see.

Yes, I have no doubt that you have a true Rd Butt Reg Police; unheard of no. But still unusual and very desirable. Being only 40 units higher than David's, a picture of which he linked to in his post above, I'm very curious about one thing in particular. Does yours have the large pre war style ejector knob with notched barrel like David's? And does it have round top (service) grips like his or mini Magnas?

.38 RP configuration

Thanks for the input. My RP has the large headed ejector rod with the barrel cut out and the earlier round top grips with silver colored medallions. This is a great site isn't it.
Thanks again
