New 396 NG

I picked up this 396 NG last week and have put 300 rounds through it so far. Absolutely no problems. The trigger is a little heavy, but that should get better. I've been cleaning it just like my blued guns, but is there something special I should use to protect the finish?

Nothing special, I use Clenzoil and just wipe dry. The black on the frame will wear quickly, but it just adds that well used look. The cylinder is stainless and should hold up well.

I put 100 rounds of Georgia Arms 200 gr Gold Dots through my 396NG today. You have a great gun.

Where are the range reports on these nice Specials?

I like this one, but wonder why they are not producing it with a 3 inch barrel as well.

EHN, thanks for the tip. I know the finish won't last forever, but I'd like to keep it as good as possible.
TN RAT, I'm not half the shooter most of the people here are, but I can tell you that with my handloaded 240 gr. LRNFP rounds it shoots about 4-5 inches low at 15 yards. I think my 240 gr. bullets might be right on. The gun feels great to me and I could easily shoot it all day with no problem. And yeah, a 3 inch barrell would be perfect as I'm not planning on carrying it yet. Thanks

You mentioned in your range report the handload 240 grain LRNFP's hitting 4"-5" low at 15 yards. Then went on to say something about an (unspecified) load with 240 grain bullets "might be right on". What is the second load of which you speak? Handload? Factory? The reason I ask is because typically a lighter charge (less FPS) of powder behind the same weight of bullet will actually have a higher POI, than a faster moving bullet of the same weight?

Spotteddog, thanks for noticing that mistake. I meant to say it shoots low with 200 gr. LRNFP. I'm using 5 gr. of Titegroup in the 200 gr. and 4.5 gr. in the 240. When I reload I usually go about the middle of the load range as I'm only punching paper.

Mine shoots spot on with 200 gr Gold Dots from Georgia arms and WW 200 gr. Silvertips. BTW I received an Action Target's Steel Torso for Christmas and it is everything they say it is. Bullets literally disintegrate. The snow is littered with fragments. Only problem is now I want more.
