Its now listed on Smith's website. Its very intriguing. I used to shoot alot of 10mm mostly from a Glock 20 but i love smith revolvers and maybe this is the spark to get back into it. Does anyone know if i can get more FPE from a hot factory 10mm like a winchester silvertip or corbon than i can get out of my 686 5inch? If so, i might be able to convince myself that i should buy it as a wood's gun. It also shoots 40 s&W by the way.

"The 10mm Magnum will punch into the .44 Remington Magnum energy envelope." This is how AMT marketed the 10mm Magnum in the first place.

With Double Tap (read: full-power ammunition.) The 10mm Auto cartridge already reaches into the "lower energy range" of the .41 Remington Magnum. (Check into it!)

Magnum Mike does put it in perspective - a 10mm "hot" loaded will almost equal a .41 magnum, but certainly not a .44mag. It will exceed a theoretical .41 special, though.

Note his numbers are from 8 and 9" barrels (um, besides those weird TC folks, whose using that?).

Go to Double Tap's site to see what you can reliably get out of a 10mm, and that's on the top end (read, full sized barrel, and magnum level recoil). A good comparison of other "hot" loads is to look at the Buffalo Bore site.

If a 10mm could do 44mag levels (or even 41mag levels) my bear worries would be over! But it won't.

As a "woods" gun, yeah, I'd rather take a 10mm "hot" loaded than a .357. You can load a larger lead bullet with a flatter tip than a .357 and take game or defend against large animals. So you can go ahead and buy it! Don't let us stop you!

Saw it posted elsewhere that S&W has 6.5" models ready to ship but the 4" will not be ready until after the first of the year.

My local dealer had a 4 and a 6.5 inch. I picked the 4 because I plan to carry it some.

They have locks, sorry guys. Dealers set their own prices, since this is to be a limited run. 7 and some change was the damage.

I did a test drive at lunch and I do love this thing. I got a box of Rem 180 and a box of my handload 180 gr 40 S&W through it. It is a nice shooting piece. My 40 loads are not hot and not wussy target loads either, in that big N frame they are nice. 10's are not bad either, but you know they go off.

I was supprised, it has the semi-polished finish like my 66, not the bead blasted like my 625.

Now it is time to buy some brass and start loading!

Nice gun, glad to see it's back.

I cannot find a price on it, even on the www. gunblast.com website review.

The 10mm IS basically what a 41special would be, period.

Kinda - Doubletap and Buffalo Bore both make 10mm rounds that exceed some "normal" .44 Mag factory loads.

IIRC DT tops out at 750, where most WInchester factory loads are just a little less than that - although they make a couple that get closer to the 900 or 1000 range.

Suffice to say there is *no doubt* the .41/.44 have far, far more potential than the 10mm, but very few creatures will blow off a -

Caliber : 10mm

Bullet : 200gr Wide Flat Nose Gas Check Beartooth

Ballistics : 1300fps/ 750 ft./lbs. - Glock 20

or a

Caliber : 10mm

Bullet : 230gr Wide Flat Nose Gas Check Hardcast

Ballistics : 1120fps/ 641 ft./lbs. - Glock 20

I still prefer my 29-2, but the 10mm will do the job on the vast majority of creatures that walk North America.

Picked up a 610-2 nonfluted cylinder 4" bbl.. ANIB today for a little over 5 with a lot of (20+) moon clips, a demooner and two belt carries and two moon holders. Cylinder has little to no drag marks on it.

Good, average, or I got taken deal?

... Of course, it doesn't have a lock so I'm happy

You did REALLY GOOD! The 610 is one of my "grail guns".

Congratulations.

I reallyReallyREALLY*REALLY* love my 4" 610.

I did have to put HiViz sights on it. Now it's perfect.

And 'unfluted' has become my idea of how such a rig is supposed to look.

We don't see many 610s out this way for any price. $500 beat what I gave for mine a year ago.

Use it, shoot it lots, and rejoice in what revolvers do best.
