Went by Cabelas on Thursday. Theres a 41 in the used rack, I asked to see it. Its BRAND SPANKIN NEW, near as I could tell. UAY prefix, so I bought it, 670 out the door.

Home evaluation (never handled a 41 before), nice finish, nice fit, well balanced. Trigger did'nt come close to my ruger mkIII (course I did some work on that one).

So I scaled it, hit or miss, 2-3lbs. I took it apart, stones in hand. CLEARLY I can see why the old ones are king, don't get me wrong I got a GOOD deal, but holy.. OH the MIM.. the only thing in there that saw a fitting or a stoning was the hammer hook. It took quite a bit of stonin just to get the sear flat.

ANYWAY, little bit o' work, dropped to a REAL consistent 2lb 6oz pull(my ruger is 1lb 5), and I haven't messed with that trigger bar/adjuster/spring thing yet(dropped .5lb with the stones)...... AND MAN IT SHOOTS GOOD.

Anyone got advise on trigger jobs with a 41?

My Ruger 22/45 has all bells a whistles and still is out shot by my 22A with ease. Full Volquartsen trigger kit at 3/4 to 1 lb with no creep or over travel, along with Volquartsen extractor, Wolff recoil & firing pin springs, jeweled bolt, custom grips. Got so much in the gun I can't sell the thing, it just sits in the gun safe.

To be replaced by M41 just ordered under special sales program direct from S&W $772 to my dealer who charges no fee to me.

What is this "special sales program" ?

Thanks.

This was a 40% off MSRP for active duty & retired military ending Dec 31, but another has stared but webpage is not up last I checked.

Did you have to be a retired Lifer, or was a single hitch (back when) enough to qualify?

I'm not sure what you point is except you got a good deal. I like the fact that I didn't have to do anything to my new 41 to have her shoot one ragged hole groups out of the box. For myself, the trigger is great. Don't really want it any lighter. I like all my triggers on my guns to be about the same and the 41 is already plenty light for me. Plus, it's a matter of fit. I don't care for the Ruger and how the thing works. Where as the 41 is put together in a thoughtful manner and is very easy to field strip. But, to each his own.

Not sure if address to me, but here goes shipmate. I was trying to make a point that IMHO the guy got a good buy. Everything else you said was spot on in my book, that Ruger of mine pictured here is POS compared to my 2206, 22A and the 41 I have coming. One of these days I will bight the bullet and sell the thing and figure the loss incurred as a positive lesson learned.
