New 43C back to SW

I stopped buying the newer revolver years ago. I treasure, my older ones and would never sell them. my recent purchase was 438 brand new in the box for $375. The empty casing was dated 2011 I took it to the range today and it ran like a champ. All manufactures these days are having issues with guns. The key is getting it fixed right the first time and the turnaround time, say what you want about Ruger but their turnaround time from door-to-door is 10 days.

My ejector rod came looking cut with a Dremel tool. Other than that the gun works fine.

Wow that looks bad. WTH? That's just unacceptable.

I was going to send it back to S&W. Other than the ejector rod it shoots good and I rarely get a misfire. I shot a groundhog with it.

I just picked up a 642 this evening. The rifling lands are covered with chatter and gouges. I never considered taking a borescope with me to check out a new S&W. Live and learn. An 8 week wait or drive 2hrs each way to return to dealer plus pay a $25 restocking fee and receive the balance in store credit. I was taking advantage of the last day of Ohio's tax holiday. I lost big time.

I feel for you. You spend your hard earned money and get a substandard product. I was not happy about the messed up ejector rod on my M43c. I contacted S&W and asked for another ejector rod. They would not send one. I would have to send the. The gun.

Those Lipsey UC J-frames people are having problems with those. They are having to send them back. They are spending well over $700 for those UC models.

I’ve seen multiple recent S&W’s with chatter marks, poor forcing cones, chambers with gouges. We are their quality control department….

In over fifty years of owning S&W revolvers, I don’t recall problems this obvious or frequent.

I get the impression Smith is counting on most buyers not actually using their revolvers.

I am also having issues with my 43C. I bought it just after Christmas. First trip to the range and with a variety of ammo, it shot six to eight inches to the left at seven yards, spit lead ferociously, and all spent cases required major effort to eject even if allowing the cylinder to cool. Warranty had it for about eight weeks. The cylinder was replaced, forcing cone recut, some other things done. Still shot way left with everything and spit a little lead, but not as much as before. I sent pictures of the target and told them I especially wanted it to shoot POA with Federal Punch. Got it back a little quicker the second time. Barrel adjusted, forcing cone recut. It now shoots about an inch or two left at seven yards with everything, and I still get spatter in the face with some ammo. If I keep having to send it back, at some point I will have an less than one inch barrel due to recutting the forcing cone each time. I ordered a new set of grips to see if the way I'm gripping has anything to do with the stock boot grips and pressing left. If that doesn't show any improvements, its going back a third time. I have an old 18 and 34, and neither have the lead spitting problem this little gun has exhibited.
