I finally got the 2 3/4 inch L frame model 69 44 magnum. Probably the smallest all steel five shot 44 magnum you can get

New grips and the second gun is even more rare. It’s a 2 inch 44 Special S&W 269 with a scandium frame and titanium cylinder. I carry the model 69 on my hip and the 269 in my pocket.

The first cylinder is 240 grain Underwood ammo and the brass of every cartridge overexpanded making extraction difficult. The next two cylinder loads were Buffalo Bore Deer Grenades and were flawless as usual.Even though it has very stout recoil I was able to shoot quite rapidly.

In the mid 90's I bought a used Tauras five shot steel 44 Special with a 3" barrel. I often carried it until 2017 when I traded it in on a 629-10 PC 2 5/8" (slab sided barrel and unfluted cylinder). The only comfortable way I've found to carry it is in a 3" DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard (I have both Black And tan!) So heavy!

Where can I find one of the 269? are they still in production? And lastly, What do you use for a holster/pocket scabbard?

At the end of their production, they couldn't give those 296s away - they were heavily discounted on several sites like CDNN. Looking back, wish I'd have grabbed one.

I'm a big fan of the M69 have several of both barrel lengths. I love your after market grips but cringe at the thought of shooting full on .44 mags with them. I can get along with the factory rubber grips but personally prefer the Hougue Tamers for any multi cyl sessions with Mag ammo (bone at the base of my thumb doesn't like open back strap).

I have an L Frame Mtn Lite 44 special 396, 3 1/4" exposed hammer version the 296 - incredibly light weight and handy little revolvers.

As mentioned above, looking forward to a range report.

I'll be going to the range next week. I've shot the m269 a lot, but as the m69 is newer I only have a box through it. I'll have a detailed range report with pictures next week. The pocket holster for the m269 is my own creation. It's ugly but it works perfectly, I'll post a picture later.

I really dropped the ball on the 296. Handled it at the SHOT show, thought it was ugly but smart. I didn't get one and then POOF they were discontinued. A really intelligent big bore choice...still sorry I missed them and have been looking for one to turn up without luck.

That Model 69 is a great gun! I love mine. It shoots great and is very accurate. I carry it sometimes as well on a paddle holster. It carries fine, not too big.

296s come up for sale here a couple times a year. I think I got mine here. It is a niche weapon for me, but I find it far less obnoxious to shoot with the Gold Dot 200 gr load than a J frame 9mm.

I kicked around the idea of a short barreled 69. Guys really dress them up nice by polishing them and removing black finishes. I ended up buying a 3” 629.

I also edited the first post so that people don't have to scroll everywhere to find things.
