New 60 3"

Just saw it this morning at my LGS and bought it immediately. I have had several other J's and snubbies from Ruger and Colt but this one really hit the sweet spot for me. I had not handled one before.

I would like to know what others who own this model might do for concealed carry inosfar as method (iwb, owb, etc.) and holster.

I would also appreciate any comments on replacement grips. I usually put Pachmayr or Hogue on a snubby and like them, and don't find them that hard to conceal. But again, I have never shot a 3" 60, or any 60 for that matter.

I have a 2015 vintage 60-15 and find it to be quite a good shooter...

Timing and other mechanicals are in perfect order.

I mostly shoot and carry .38 Spl and +P but have put the occasional cylinder of .357 through it during range sessions and must admit that it’s a handful, but not unmanageable, with this load.

Easy to carry IWB in a Milt Sparks VMII.

One of my regular EDC’s and the only one of my S&W’s with the IL. For me, this is a tool rather than a collector’s item.

Good afternoon! I have a model 60-15 Pro Series with a 3" barrel. It doesn't get carried often, but when it does, it rides in a Simply Rugged pancake holster.

The gun came with nice wooden grips, so I haven't changed them. I believe they are Altamont.

After shooting be sure to check all the screws on it, as they have a tendency to loosen. These little guns are really accurate and fun to shoot. Enjoy!

Thanks guys. Mine is also a -15. Have not been able to get to the range yet but I am getting in dry fire exercise and the trigger is wonderful just as it came from the factory, double and single action. I will start out with mild .357 and 38 handloads. I think I will go with Simply Rugged also, I have one for one of my other snubbies and like it.

I have a 60-10. I usually shoot standard 38 out of it. But I make a habit of shooting some 158 gr 357 out of it fairly often.
I carry a semi auto in the city and carry either my 66-1 snub or the 3” 60 for a trail gun. Both are loaded with the 357 rounds there.
The 60 rides in a Simply Rugged pancake holster.

I fell in love the first time I saw a 60-15, I bought a 642and went home, haunted me all night, so I called in the morning and told them to hold it, I'm on the way.

I carry mine in a Lobo offset clip horsehide IWB, and it wears Altamont BATELEUR®s. Same setup as all my .357 capable J's.

I've shot up to BB 180s (stocks help a lot!) in it, but usually carry BB 38/44 Outdoorsman on the trail.

It's a 686- ( I have a 686+ for the 180s)

I carried a M60-7 for 26 years and similar Chief's Specials prior to that going back to 1980. I've used 4 methods for toting over the 40 years I carried it.

The least favorite way was an Ankle Holster - would not do that any more. The second way was in a soft IWB soft suede clip holster - descent when I was thinner. The two methods I still use are a OWB Belt Holster and Pocket carry in a DeSantis Nemises holster.

While I retired the M60-7 Chief's Special two years ago, I still carry my Sig P365 in a OWB and Pocket Holster.

SJS: I have a 60-4, which I CC in a Lobo Enhanced Pancake, OWB strong side vertical (not FBI cant) holster, no thumb strap.
You may specify vertical, barrel length, color, for a reasonable price.

I have a 1993 Model 60-4. This my favorite camping/hiking gun. Its .38 Special only, but that's plenty to handle pretty much anything in my neck of the woods.
I carry it in an older Don Hume pancake style holster.

I just got back from its first range trip.

Very accurate out to 15 yards. I opened up a good bit at 20 yards, but I know it was me not the revolver. It is an indoor range with lousy lighting and I am an old man with lousy eyes and I could see neither the sights nor the bullseye worth a darn.

Piece of cake with 38sp, and 38+P. knuckle rap with full power .357, but the weight and balance are good and I know it will be no problem with the Hogue grip I have ordered. Doesn't really need more cushioning, just more area to move my knuckle a tiny bit. The problem is deciding whether to use that grip, which will be more likely to print, when I will only shoot a few .357 rounds a trip. The stock grip feels great with the 38sp.

I am retired and shoot a great deal and I shoot my carry gun the most, so it will see a large number of mild handloads every week. I may just keep it stock and live with a knuckle bang at the end of each session.

Trigger is wonderful as is.

I have owned all manner of handguns, from long barreled specialty pistols, to pistols of all types and revolvers of various barrel lengths, including many snubbies, but for some reason have never had a 3" barrel. Boy, do I love the balance it provides, at least with this frame size. I looked at the ballistics and was surprised with both the 38 and 357 how much more velocity that extra inch gives you over a 2" snubby.

I don't want to give in to hyperbole but this may be the best all around, versatile revolver I have ever owned. Oh hell with restraint, it may be the best revolver, period. No, make that the best handgun. No, no, actually it is the best firearm ever devised by the mind of man.

My favorite Chiefs Special is your 60-15's granddad on its father's side. It shipped in July 1953, is the first known 3" Baby Chiefs Special on the forum, and it still acts like a kid.

I have the model 60 in 3”, it is my EDC when in town. I have a simply rugged pancake holster that conceals nicely. When out in the BLM I use the same holster for my model 63 in 22 lr cross draw and a 45 on my strong side hip, this covers anything I may encounter.

It seems most indoor ranges suffer from that, and still charge ridiculous rates to shoot.

I have a M60 3" in .38 Special, a Talo special, and with decent lighting it's pretty deadly out to 25yds. I did replace the OEM grips with a set of Pachmyars, and that made it a lot easier to maintain a consistent hold. Recoil with the .38's is pretty mild, even +P stuff. I use a Desantis pancake holster for hiking, but I prefer my 637 in a IWB holster for CCW. Great little revolvers though.
