Took the 627 out to the farm to shoot. Set up metal plates on shepherd's hooks at 7, 15, 20 , and 25 yards. I was so impressed with revolver, very little recoil with 38spcl and 357. Adjusted the front site downwards a little but it was pretty spot on. One thing I don't know that I like are the moon clips. I had bought 20 along with a loader and my hands are about to die from loading them all. I may just go with a speed loader.

Scuba2do:

Very nice firearm. I have one of those on my list, too (4" and 2").

5 Star (5starfirearms dot com) speedloaders are aluminum and well made (imho). By now, Safariland and others may be producing 7- and 8-hole speedloaders so you can do a little research to see who makes what.

Welcome to the forum, too!

Chris,
I am glad you recommended them because I just ordered the range block kit with two speed loaders. I think my hand swelling is starting to go down after loading those moon clips. Going to go back out tomorrow and shoot some more. Will need to order powder measure/dillon die set now to start reloading the brass. :)

That's a heck of a first revolver. Excellent choice. I shot a 627 Pro at the S&W Shooting Sports Center and fell in love. It took some time to get one for myself, but it was worth the wait.

As far as switching to speedloaders, you could also look into moon clip loading tools. It'll save some wear and tear on those thumbs. How well do your moon clips retain the brass? The clips I picked up at my LGS are easy to load/unload but make for a very jiggly retention.

A real beauty, congratulations! I own 2 - 7 shot 686+ Smiths, a 4" and a 6" bbl and an 8 hole S&W revolver is on my short list. Either a 627 or an R8 would do the trick.

I have had that same gun for about four years. It is a lot of fun, well balanced and accurate.
Enjoy yours.

Well I just got back from my second outing with the revolver. I have to say this gun is so well manufactured. Point of aim is so accurate, the balance is excellent. I really can't tell to much difference between rounds in the revolver.
I do think the moon clips are really not ready for prime time in my humble opinion. I don't understand how someone can load them quickly because the rounds sort of dangle there and it is hard to get all 8 to go into the chambers at the same time. I am better off loading them one by one. I did order the 5 star reloader and we will see if that works out better for me. I must not be doing something right.
Shot a ton of ammo today from AR15, Beretta CX4, M92, Sig 1911. A lot of fun, will have to resurface the metal targets they got pretty chewed up.
Plinking is a lot of fun. :)

I am surprised to hear that about the moon clips. The moon clips I used in my 625 worked great. The moon clips I had purchased were from TKS. Is this a problem specific to the 627? I will be getting a 627 as soon as my LGS has them available.

My moon clips are from TK custom, which I believe is the same supplier to S&W. They looked identical to the two that came with the revolver. It may have something to do with having 8 rounds all on there or it just maybe me.

Re: your moonclip issue... practice practice practice, they're faster than speedloaders or slowstrips once you get the hang of it.

.357 is a much longer case than .45, which tends to cause more wiggle while in the clips.

That makes sense! Thanks!

Also, I misstated that I purchased my moon clips from TKS. It was indeed TK Custom. I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that.
