I bought my first .44 Magnum today. I won't get it for a week or two, but the gun looks to be in good shape. Includes the box, and all papers.

Very nice. I bought a 4" 629-3 at a LGS this week. My first 44 mag. Looking forward to shooting it this weekend. Love me some S&W revolvers.

Thanks. I won't be able to shoot it for several weeks, but I can't wait to do that. I guess I am working my way up the scale from .22LR to .38 Special to .357 Magnum to .44 Magnum for my revolvers. I never owned a N frame before, but I will have two soon. That should do it for me for a long time. Unless a 610 becomes available at a good price.

Well you have just made a BIG MISTAKE, MAYBE...

You may find that the 44 Mag, with the wide variety of loads it can shoot, that it will replace, for actual field use, all calibres from 22 LR and up...

The first S&W revolver I ever bought was a 44 Mag.

I have owned several other calibres, but the 44 Mag can be loaded to do most any job in the field.

I think you will find that you will like it a lot.

And you do not always have to shoot full power 44 Mag loads.

I plan on shooting a lot of .44 Specials through it. I bought 44 Mags this time because the price was only a little more than the Specials.

Does the .44 Magnum have the same problem with .44 Specials than .357 Magnums have with .38 Specials concerning possible carbon build up in the cylinder so that after firing the Specials, it needs to be thoroughly cleaned to fire the Magnums? I am guessing not since the .44 is the same size round while the .357/.38 isn't, but just want to make sure.

Looks really good and a plus with the box and papers.

Thanks. That is my thought since I am seeing 629s going for quite a bit more than what I paid, and they don't include the box or are in as good condition. I wanted to get at least the 629-3 since I believe it has the endurance package of the 629-2E. I believe the 4 is one of the favored versions, but I ended up with the 3. Don't think I will be disappointed.

Basically yes, but it is no big deal. Normal cleaning with a bronze brush and solvent will clean the cylinder out.

For many years I had @800 44 Special cases, that I loaded with practice loads, and shot them in my 44 Mags.
Never had a problem, except I loaded on a Star Progressive loader and once all the 44 Specials were fired I had to change the seater and crimper to reload them.
So a buddy with a Colt SAA in 44 Special was gifted all my 44 Special cases, and now I only load 44 Mag cases, simply for the reason I do not have to fuss about with my seater/crimper die.

Again, I shot thousands of 44 Special cases in my 44 Mags, with no problems.
