Hi everyone. I have just bought a brand new 629 classic but have sadly noticed that at some point it has taken some damage to the muzzle. Please see attached image. Would love to hear opinions of how serious a problem this is

I think that is enough to affect accuracy. You can either send it back to the factory, or buy the tools from Brownells and do it yourself. It does not look too deep that it can't be redone with little problem. The little dings will not hurt accuracy.

Welcome to the forum!

I also think it's pretty minor. I say shoot it from a benchrest too.

Luckily it's right on the end of a land. Can you catch a finger nail on the edge of the ding in the bore?

You bought it brand new but are you the original owner?

If they're still making that model the factory will likely replace the barrel. And you might get it back in 6 weeks to 2 months, or more.

While yours is better than most that little ding might be a good reason to re-chamfer it if shoots poorly or the opportunity presents itself to have it done.

Many of my revolvers have had less than exciting muzzles with poor presentation of the rifling at the crown so I've bought the necessary tools & fixed them myself.

On most I have a before & after picture but only an after for my 629-6 that I re-chamfered.

By now, with MIM, barrel shrouds, timing issues, crooked barrels, damaged muzzles and forcing cones, everyone should know that when buying a new S&W, you gotta check everything before you commit to the paperwork. CS has gotten to the point where the factory is using the customers as their CS eyes… Maybe the factory should include a check every time they return a repair?
