NEW 686-6 PLUS with odd holes in the frame.

This 686-6 PLUS 357 came in today, and I was curious to know if it had holes like my 617 did.

I removed the stocks and sure enough, it has 4 holes on the right side. None on the left. They appear to be the same type and size of holes on my 617.

I still have ZERO clue what they are for or why S&W would do this.

Yes they are.

My best guess is the holes in the grip frame fit a factory positioning jig designed to hold the frame securely in place during one or more of the many CNC milling/drilling operations performed on the frame.

I think they are fixturing holes as well, only used in the manufacturing process.

Just checked my (2) 686 Plus revolvers, a 4.25" and a 6". No such holes, FWIW.
